SKILL FOR CHANGE: TenTen Presents Certificates to Participants of PAP-Tantita's Sponsored Solar Power Training Project

updated 23 Aug, 2024

Popularly known as 'The Creek Boy TenTen', Mr. Ogbaburu Justice Tenna, a comedian and content creator in the Niger Delta, has presented certificates to 20 successful trainees who participated in the 'Skill For Change' free solar / inverter training project, an initiative that he said is aimed at "assisting youths in the region to gain relevant solar skills for self employment" and is sponsored by the Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, and the Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP.

The presentation of certificates to participants of the three-day training programme which began on August 19, held at the training venue in the Effurun area of the State on Thursday, August 22, 2024.

The participants are Oghor Omafuokpe, Tom Debi, Esiekpere Mudiaga Kevwe, Isih Obomete Benson, Justin Aputu, Godsfavour Akponominu, Destiny Israel, Ovuoka Ovie, Obaro Omomena Owhadua, Darlington Godwin, Bright Udi, Iyke Ogunyemi, Akpejaen Chidi Jude, Kelvin Wilcox, Abu Stephen, Mrefe Oscar, Ukpe Precious Karo, Otobo Oghenerume Jennifer, Isiobo Alagoa, and Benjamin Kelvin.

According to the organiser of the training project, TenTen, the 'Skill For Change' initiative which had targeted 100 youths in the Niger Delta region is designed to impart first-hand knowledge to participants that are interested in solar powered technology.

"This programme, sponsored by Tantita and the Presidential Amnesty Programme, is designed to accommodate and impart knowledge into the Niger Delta youths who are interested in learning basic knowledge in solar installation and maintenance," Mr. TenTen explained.

Speaking further on the vision behind the 'Skill For Change' initiative, he stressed that the youths needed to be empowered with special skill sets so that they can make impactful changes in the society for the benefit of the entire citizens.

"In the society, everybody has to contribute to its development in their own way. Because other people are doing that does not mean that you cannot do yours too. We all must make a change or contribute to it.

"Another important area I also want sponsors to give attention to is vocational training because a lot of the things that some of these leaders do mostly is giving scholarship to only those who desire to go to school, maybe secondary school, university. But vocational training is very important too. And solar is the future of energy.

"We all know the challenges of electricity in Nigeria, and especially in our remote villages. So getting a solar skill is very relevant because you will definitely need it in the future. So that's why we clamoured for this 'Skill For Change', that those interested should come and acquire the knowledge," he added.

TenTen who said that the basic training was free further stated that participants can further for advanced knowledge on solar having gained the basics.

"This training is the basic, it's one week. But it's free. None of the people that came paid money to anyone. With what they've learned now, they already know what solar power is and they can do connection, panel, inverter; they know all the basic stuff.

"As mentioned, this is basic. Those who want to further for advanced skills they can indicate interest to the company that came to do the training. The company will give them discounts if participants want to learn more, to pay just a little amount of money for them to gain the advance knowledge."

Tenten thanked the sponsors for the opportunity and the passion shown towards empowering the youths, just as he charged Niger Delta youths to key into skill acquisition for self development and wealth creation.

"I personally thank the management of Tantita, despite being a private organisation whose mandate borders on security, the company has however taken on the role of a humanitarianism, giving opportunities to the youths regarding empowerment. Also, kudos to our big brother in charge of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, for teaming up with Tantita to get this project done.

"My advice to the youths is that they should always try to learn relevant skills. Everybody must not do politics, everybody must not look for free money as free money we are eating will one day stop. So, in the end, it's your handwork and your skill that will sustain you. We have a lot of people doing makeup and hair but this solar is very different, it's not that common now so that's why this skill is very important because it has a future prospective," he stressed.
