Mammoth Crowd as Late Pst. Jane Jemima Ukori Laid to Rest in Ogbobagbene

updated 28 Apr, 2024

The town of Ogbobagbene, in the Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, was awash with top dignitaries among other personalities, who, sadly, stormed the country home of a former minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, to pay their last respect to a great philanthropist and clergy, the late Pst. Mrs. Jemima Jane Kenawarekumor Ukori (Nee Orubebe), on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Until her untimely passing at the age of 55 years on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, the late Pst. Jane was married to Amb. Jude Ebitimi Ukori (JP) in a union that was blessed with a set of triplets and two sets of twins, a total of four boys and three girls.

From the Veenell Hospital morgue in Warri, the body of the late Pst. Jane was conveyed in the morning hours by family members and other sympathisers via a motorcade to her hometown, Ogbobagbene, arriving at her father's compound few hours later.

Thereafter, the casket housing her remains was taken to the Glory Sanctuary Hall for a Christian funeral service that was led by the Arch Bishop Ogbuji Igwe of the Holy Jesus Mission ministry, with other ministers and a huge crowd of dignitaries in attendance.

Activities at the brief Christian funeral service include Bible readings, paying of tributes, and biography presentation of the deceased that was read by Bibobra Bello Orubebe, a professor of law at the Caleb University, Lagos State.

According to a brief from the biography, the late Pst. Jane Ukori, who was born on the 7th of April, 1969, attended the popular Ugborikoko Primary School in Effurun-Warri, before she proceeded to the Delta State University (DELSU) in Abraka, where she bagged a Bachelor's degree in sociology in 1998.

In the tribute session, the late clergy and mother of seven, was extolled for her humane desire aimed at uplifting the spirits of the downtrodden and less privilege in society, especially through her humanitarian efforts, while also playing the role of a wife and mother in the homefront.

In the sermon delivered, the officiating minister, Arch Bishop Ogbuji, tasked everyone in attendance to reflect on the kind of life they are presently leading as it is "only Christians [that] will make Heaven" when their own day of departure comes, stressing that no one will live here on the Earth forever.

The casket holding the remains of the late Pst. Jane Ukori, in a procession, was taken to the final resting place in her compound in Ogbobagbene where she was interred.

The statement, "She will be forever remembered for her impactful life," as said by Prof. Bello Orubebe during the biography presentation, vividly captures the reality in the minds of those who knew the great philanthropy and a lover of God. For all that is now left as evidence that she once walked the Earth are her humanitarian and other positive legacies she had left behind as an inspiration for others. However, it's painful that she left early, at just 55 years!
