FUNERAL: Tribute to a Golden Grandmother Late Madam Dour Akoto as the Ama-Okosu-ere Laid to Rest

At about the seventh hour on Saturday (July 19, 2025) morning, the body of the late Ama-Okosu-ere of Kokodiagbene community, Madam Dour Akoto, was laid to eternal rest after a Christian funeral service and a social wake-keep ceremony on Friday, with families and other sympathisers bidding her eternal farewell, at least, for now.
Born on March 7, 1910, the 115-year-old grandmother, though childless, is however survived by a community of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, owing to her exemplary lifestyle as defined by love and care.
Described as a peaceful, accommodating and God-fearing woman, the late Madam Dour Akoto will forever occupy the hearts of her relatives and those who were privilege to know her during her lifetime.
Among the outpouring of tributes in her honour is the below as written by the Brand Director of PENGlobal, Mr. Abai Francis, a grandson, in her memory.
"The greatest robber is not those who wield guns or other armed weapons to forcefully extort from the powerless ones, neither those who use the powers bestowed on them in public office to loot the common patrimony of the populace. No, the greatest robber is DEATH!
"One again, like a thief in the night, the perpetrator without a heart or conscience or guilt struck again in the early evening of Monday (July 14, 2025) and robbed us of our ever beloved golden mother and grandmother, MADAM DOUR AKOTO. It is the greatest robbery at the moment perpetrated against the Akoto Family.
"Yet, some opine we should celebrate because she lived long, transiting from the plane called Earth to the Great Beyond at the acclaimed age of 115 years. But after the celebration, what's next? What happens to the vacuum created by her absence, or the longings to feel her comfort?
"We are told that 'Men do not cry!' But my heart continues to wail inside as I recall the fond memories I have about you. You were such a golden mother who loved to tend to the cares of others and who drew happiness seeing others happy. It is therefore not surprising when you began to see it as a burden on your children as the fatigue of old age began to set in. You were such a mother who would gladly carry a burden for others to have peace.
"We will all miss you. We can only try to emulate your lifestyle, but the truth remains that we are ourselves a carbon copy of our own genetic makeup. Nonetheless, we will try to inculcate in our lives, that version of you that will never die, to refining our character.
"Adieu my ever golden grandmother, Madam Dour Akoto, the Ama-Okosu-ere of Kokodiagbene community. Rest in beautiful peace in the Bosom of the Lord."
