AMASEIKUMOR 2024: ‘Shun Societal Vices’ — Deputy Coordinator of Egbesu Brotherhood Worldwide warns youths
At the annual Amaseikumor Festival ongoing in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, the Deputy Coordinator of the Egbesu Brotherhood Worldwide, Comr. Bakumor Ellington, has warned Nigerian youths, particularly Ijaw youths to beware of societal vices which he said are harmful to existence and against the tenets of the Egbesu tradition.
Comr. Bakumor gave the warning as the Amaseikumor Festival enters its second day (Saturday, April 13) in Oporoza, the traditional headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom, venue of the festival.
In his words, “As much as possible we should run away from societal vices, especially drugs, piracy, bunkering; any societal vices that draw us back because we are looking at a time where we want to think and move forward in life as an ethnic nation.
“So it is important that the youths shun all negative vices so that we can move forward as a people. A person that is into vices cannot concentrate in life or have anything to contribute to the society,” he added.
On the Amaseikumor festival, the Egbesu Brotherhood Worldwide Deputy Coordinator noted that the Amaseikumor festival is part of the culture of the people which is a significant one that helps to remind the people of their heritage which makes them unique.
“Egbesu festival has been done every year and we have seen the blessings that have come from it overtime. So, our faith has also been increased.
“Apart from the spiritual aspect, this is also an opportunity for us to come together as Ijaw people, as Gbaramatu people, as Niger Delta people, as Nigerians to enjoy the heritage of our culture as a people.
"This festival brings us together to remind us of the ways of our ancestors and our culture because without culture, there is no heritage, there is nothing for us to remember where we are coming from. And that is part of the reasons why we are here.
“Our message to our people is for them to continue to uphold this tradition, this festivities, that thread that connects us as a people will remain there. Once culture is removed from a people we become like a soul-less people,” he added.
