WARRI SOUTH-WEST: Oromoni commends NCWS as Abugewa seeks support for subvention, secretariat building

The Executive Chairman of Warri South-West Local Government Council in Delta State, Hon. Sylvester Oromoni, has hailed members of the National Council for Women Societies (NCWS) for their courage and for the outstanding roles they play in politics, stressing that "without women there will be no politicians because women play a vital part in voting." 

The Warri South-West LG Council Boss gave the commendation when he played host to the State President NCWS, Comrade Mrs Margaret Jokoh Abugewa, in his office, ahead of the inauguration of the WSW Council Chapter for the NCWS on Thursday, February 19, 2026.

Oromoni, who welcomed the NCWS leadership during the courtesy visit, said, "I want really appreciate the NCWS for all the things you have been doing even during elections... As a politician with the support of women like you, we can go far.

"I'm proud of women like you for your courage. I want to encourage you all to continue with the good works and I pray God strengthen you all and you will never see sorrows in your life," he prayed.

Abugewa, during her presentation at the visit, congratulated Oromoni for his victory at the last poll and prayed God to grant the executive chairman more strength and wisdom to pilot the affairs of the LG Council.

The NCWS State President stated that the NCWS Nigeria is the umbrella body of women in Nigeria registered with the International Council of Women, ICW, and further confirmed the presence of the NCWS headquarters in Abuja, across the 36 states, the 774 LGAs as well as in the Diaspora "with a good number of members in different countries."

According to her, "NCWS is the oldest women organization in Nigeria; the Council is the voice of women. And has been involved in advocacy, capacity, building, awareness, creation, health, education of the girl child, and so on," with objectives centered on the promotion of economic and social welfare of women with main emphasis on education and training, reawakening women's consciousness, support for women, participation of women in community affairs, and to "bolster cooperation with other national and international bodies, with similar aims and objectives."

However, the State President lamented that one of the challenges faced by the NCWS in Warri South-West is the lack of a Secretariat for its meetings. She appealed to the LG Council Boss for financial support in establishing the NCWS Secretariat which she said was earlier demolished.

"My Honourable Chairman Sir, we are using this medium to appeal to you for financial support to enable us to build our secretariat for permanent meeting venue; and also the land will not be taken from us again.

"I'm also appealing for yearly subvention for Warri South-West Local Government Chapter. Like an invitation to Asaba now, we will be having a quarterly meeting there. And occasionally, we travel to Abuja too. But mostly, the state meetings, you need to really sponsor the president and the secretary, they have to be in the meeting, thank you Sir," she added in her appeal.

Oromoni, who was excited at the visit, promised to look into their demands, and also congratulated the new exco members of the NCWS in Warri South-West.

Christi Omamofe; the NCWS Chairlady of Warri South-West, Timi Angela Oromoni Ojiemen; women leader Chief Vero Emmanuel Tangbowei JP; SSA to the Governor on Oil & Gas, Hon. Keyness Oromoni, and his wife, Mrs. Blessing Keyness Oromoni,
