WARRI FED. CONSTITUENCY: Fiyewei of Gbaramatu tasks NSA, security agencies over threats to peace

The Fiyewei of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom in the Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief Dr. Godspower Gbenekama (JP), has called on the Office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, and security agencies in the country to deal with those that are posing threats to peace in the Warri Federal Constituency.

The Fiyewei's call is coming on the heels of threats by some elements to attack pipeline infrastructures in the region in order to dent the reputation of the Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo.

"We have information all over the place, that there elements still thinking of attacking pipelines just to discredit Tantita or Tompolo. Let it be said that nobody as at this time can discredit Tompolo and the Tantita Security Services at this time," Gbenekama warned.

The Fiyewei disclosed that the desire of the Ijaw people is peace, hence they are not interested in going into any conflict with their neighbour, the Itsekiri ethnic nationality, an action that prompted the leadership of the kingdom to prevail on Gbaramatu youtj over the seven days ultimatum earlier declared over the recent burning down of Akpata community in the kingdom by the Amadinor people, who he claimed are of Gbaramatu ancestry. noting that "they are our brothers".

The Gbaramatu leader also raised the issue of the alleged British officer that was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) with over 50 AK-47 rifles, six pump-action shotguns, and more than 3,000 rounds of ammunition that were confiscated by the DSS..

He said, "The NSA's office and the security agency's office should, as a matter of fact and a matter of urgency, deal with these issues of people that were gun-running, people that were training people to attack the Gbaramatu people.

"The news is all over the place. An Itsekiri man, who is a British army, was caught, arrested. Please, we are watching. All those that were implicated in this case, why can't security agencies go after such people?" he queried.

Speaking further he added, "They declared Tompolo just because somebody, a stranger, sprayed money. But yet, some people were caught with guns and a traditional ruler in Warri area was also implicated in the case. Yet, we are yet to hear anything about it," he wondered.

Recall that the DSS on April 25 intercepted a major cache of arms in Asaba, Delta State, seizing 57 AK-47 rifles and hundreds of rounds of ammunition smuggled by a British officer, who was later intercepted in Lagos as he attempted to board a flight to the United Kingdom. But no development has been heard about the issue.

Meanwhile, the Warri Federal Constituency has been unsettling over the concluded report of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, whose recommendations did not sit well with the Itsekiri ethnic nationality, who since then have been protesting against the development.
