PROTEST: OML 42 Workforce disrupt operations, demand better welfare package
Workers from Batan, Odidi, Egwa and Jones Creek fields among others, under the aegis of OML 42 Workforce, have disrupted operations in the onshore OML 42 operated jointly by Neconde Energy Limited and the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) in Delta State, over issues bordering on their poor welfare by management.
Information reaching PENGlobal news desk on Thursday, October 30, 2025, indicate that the aggrieved workers have stalled crew change while protesting against the OML 42 management poor handling of their welfare
Speaking on behalf of other workers in OML 42, Hon. Engr. Faith Mamamu, chairman of the association, revealed that their patience has run out arising from the failure of management to address their numerous complaints and concerns.
Hon. Mamamu, who said that they are not slaves, called on the OML 42 management to stop the mistreatment of workers by according them dignity and respect.
"All the workers of OML 42 from Batan, Odidi, Egwa and Jones Creek fields, are partaking in this protest, and we are protesting against the backdrop of poor workers welfare generally.
"We are producing 50,000 barrels of oil a day across the fields, but yet the workers are suffering. We are not slaves and we are tired of being treated without regard to our health and safety.
"We are demanding among others, a review of salary of workers and other allowances. In the locations, there is no good food, we don't even have good water, no good beddings, no free internet (we use our own data to send reports for the company); the list is much," the group claimed.
The protesting workers vowed to continue their agitations until they are addressed by the OML 42 management.
"Right now we have stopped the crew change for Batan, Odidi, even Jones Creek. Nobody will go on until management address the issues raised. On that note we are calling on the management to urgently fix a meeting for dialogue, else the stations will remain down," they warned.
OML 42, an onshore oil block asset, which features seven fields with a current production target of 50,000 barrels daily, has been rife with protests from host communities and youth groups over the years, leading to low output from the oil asset that used to generate 250,000 bpd in the past.
