KOKODIAGBENE: Delta riverine community appeals to Oborevwori to link up internal roads, recommends contractor for excellent job
The Amadiwei's of oil-rich Kokodiagbene community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief Emmanuel Ekpetipu and Chief Paul Ukuli, have appealed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to award the Phase 2 of the community's internal road project as well as the roads linking it with two other communities to Ponkebi Nigeria Limited, the contractor handling the Kokodiagbene road project.
The appeal is coming on the heels of the governor's visit to the riverine areas, including Kokodiagbene, during an inspection of projects on Friday, May 3, 2024.
Speaking on the development, Chief Ukuli said: "We appreciate our able Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for deeming it fit to come down to the riverine areas, particularly oil-rich Kokodiagbene community, which plays host to two major flowstations—the Chevron's Utonana and the SPDC (now NPDC/Neconde JV) Jones Creek, having over 70 oil wells.
"Besides the governor's excellent assessment on the quality of job done on the Kokodiagbene 2.05 kilometer road project, on our part we are very impressed with the contractor, Ponkebi Nigeria Limited, on the execution of the project, even beyond our expectations.
"It is on that basis we appeal to the state government as led by His Excellency, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, as well as advocate that the construction of the phase 2 of the Kokodiagbene internal road project and the construction of Kokodiagbene–Pepeama–Okerenkoko road project first awarded since 2nd March 2007 linking up the three communities be re-awarded to Ponkebi to continue the good job as the company has won our confidence," he added.
Chief Ukuli, who noted that the road project in the community is the first state government road project, also appealed to the MORE-Agenda governor to site more projects in the oil-rich and peaceful community in recognition of its contributions to the State's revenue.
"As an oil-producing community, we are lacking a lot of basic amenities and projects worthy of our status as host to oil production. Therefore we are humbly requesting from the state government the completion of the SPDC abandoned Cottage Hospital project, the powering of our self-help drinkable water project with solar energy and extension of water lines around the community, and the sand-filling and concrete piling of the waterfront.
"We also request for the construction of concrete landing jetty for Kokodiagbene Secondary School and the provision of teachers for the secondary and primary school, the appointment of sons and daughters of Kokodiagbene into government offices, and the construction of 50 units of 2 bedroom housing units."
