INSECURITY: Address incessant herdsmen attack on Orhorho-Bomadi Road — IPF tells Oborevwori

updated 28 Feb, 2025

The Ijaw Publishers Forum (IPF) has called on the Delta State governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to address the alleged persistent herdsmen attacks on citizens along the Orhorho-Bomadi Road, which is about a kilometre from Agadama community in the Ughelli North Local Government Area of the State.

The Ijaw publishers' call is coming on the heel of an attack on its president, Comrade Ozobo Austin, and the Assistant Publicity Secretary, Mr. Perez Bibaikefe, in an incident on Saturday, February 22, 2025.

Other victims of the attack include a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon Isaiah Ingo, alongside three others.

The group, in a call by its Publicity Secretary, Ezekiel Kagbala, decried the free-handedness with which the alleged Fulani herdsmen have laid siege on the road linking several local government areas and villages in the state.

The IPF also charged the Delta State Police Command to join forces with other security agencies and swing into immediate action towards protecting the lives of Deltans and other users of the road.

According to Kagbala, "The Bomadi-Orhorho road has been a dead trap for a while. It is unfortunate that suspected strangers have continued to make life unbearable for Deltans plying that route."

Kagbala said reports of "kidnapping, robbery, raping, maiming and killings on the road have become too alarming to overlook.

"That is why we are calling on Governor Oborevwori to swing into immediate action towards curbing the menace," he added.

The IPF lamented that communities situated along the road have almost become obsolete as the marauding herdsmen attack and kill their men and rape their women almost on a daily basis.
