GYC 2024: My ambition is hinged on the need of our youths — GYC presidential aspirant Egbejule Kingsley
Mr. Egbejule Kingsley, a youth leader and presidential aspirant vying for the position of president in the Gbaramatu Youth Council (GYC) Worldwide, has posited that his ambition to occupy the number one seat in the umbrella body of youths in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, is anchored on his desire to meet the needs of the youths.
Mr. Egbejule, who hails from Kurutie community in the kingdom and currently the chairman of Gbaramatu Educational Support Forum (GESUF), revealed this to PENGlobal Politics on Monday, February 12, while answering questions on the reason behind his ambition for youth president.
"The growth of any society is hinged on the shoulders of good governance and leadership," said Mr. Egbejule, the holder of a Bachelor's and a Master's Degree in Applied Geophysics. "As a patriotic son of Gbaramatu Kingdom, I have served in different capacities positively and this is one major reason why am canvassing for the position of the president of Gbaramatu Youth Council.
"The motive behind this ambition is to bring about human capacity development, sustaining educational values, democratic legislation and representation of Gbaramatu youths at every facet of government in the country," he added.
The Geologists also revealed that, "Irrefutably, the ability of leaders to identify the challenges that the governed are faced with is the beauty of government in itself."
Going forward, the Geologist and youth leader listed some of the peculiar challenges facing the youths of Gbaramatu Kingdom as "Unemployment, insufficient skilled workers, lack of representation at every tier of government etc" just as he promised that these challenges "within my capacity as a president if elected, will be curbed for appropriately."
On the issue of drug abuse among the youths, the GYC presidential aspirant noted that "drug abuse is a major challenge faced by youths nationally, but since the office am vying for is circled within Gbaramatu youths, I will collaborate with the necessary health personnel to sensitize the youths on the dangers of drug abuse.
"I will work hand in hand with the ministry of education and health to carry out medical outreach programmes, seminars, free health evaluation and create awareness by embarking on projects on the health implications of drug abuse among students and youths in the Kingdom,"; he added.
Mr. Egbejule therefore appealed to the youths and other stakeholders to give him the needed support while stressing that "My ambition is hinged on the need of our youths and it is on this note I want to plead that I should be voted for to represent every youth in Gbaramatu Kingdom. I will ensure their (youths) voices are not unheard and I will give prior consideration to bring development to all," he vowed.
On the future of the youth council in Gbaramatu, Mr. Egbejule said, "The Gbaramatu Youth Council has been existing before most of us were born and its continuity in the years ahead is more important than our different ambitions and desires. I see a stronger and better Gbaramatu Youth Council (GYC) in decades to come if the priorities of the youths are preserved.";
