2027: Embrace Politics Without Bitterness, Selegha Tells Politicians

The Chairman of Kokodiagbene Community in the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, Comrade Ark Selegha, has urged politicians and their supporters to embrace politics without bitterness ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that political interests should never be allowed to destroy the bonds of unity and peaceful coexistence among the people.

Selegha made the appeal during a Welcome Home reception ceremony organised in honour of Chief Dr. Pedro Tuwayerin Bekenawei, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) House of Representatives flagbearer for Warri Federal Constituency, in Kokodiagbene Community on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

The community chairman, who welcomed political leaders, chiefs, elders, community stakeholders, women, youths and other guests to the ceremony, said elections are temporary while the relationships binding communities and their people together remain beyond election seasons.

"We appeal to all political actors and supporters across Warri Federal Constituency to embrace politics without bitterness. Elections will come and go, but our brotherhood and peaceful coexistence must remain," Selegha said.

He called on politicians to conduct their campaigns and engagements peacefully, respect the political choices of others and focus on issues that would promote development and improve the welfare of the people.

Speaking on Bekenawei's political aspiration, Selegha described his emergence as the NDC flagbearer as a moment of pride for Kokodiagbene Community, noting that seeking elective office comes with an enormous responsibility to serve the people.

He charged the House of Representatives candidate to remain committed to peace, unity and inclusive development as he takes his campaign across Warri Federal Constituency.

Selegha particularly urged Bekenawei not to lose sight of the development needs of riverine and oil-producing communities, as well as the aspirations of youths, women and elders for improved opportunities and better living conditions.

The chairman also thanked traditional chiefs, political leaders, community stakeholders, friends and well-wishers who attended the reception, saying their presence demonstrated friendship and solidarity with the community and its son.

"I wish the NDC Candidate, Chief Bekenawei, success in his political journey and reaffirmed the desire of Kokodiagbene Community for a peaceful political atmosphere where aspirants and their supporters can pursue their ambitions without undermining the unity of the people," he added.
