GYC 2024: Godswill Ogelegbanwei Jostle for Assistant Chief Organiser, Appeals for Support

updated 13 Feb, 2024

Propelled by the desire for collaborative leadership, a youth aspirant from Zone 1, Oporoza community, Comr. Godswill Ogelegbanwei, has indicated interest for the position of Assistant Chief Organiser in the Gbaramatu Youth Council's (GYC) forthcoming general election that is fixed for March 2024.

Recall that in the GYC schedule, 10 positions were spread across five zones with each zone having two positions. Zone 1, Oporoza, was allocated the positions of General Secretary and Assistant Chief Organiser.

Speaking to PENGlobal Politics on Tuesday, February 13, in Oporoza, Comr. Ogelegbanwei promised to collaborate with the President, the Chief Organiser and other executive members of the council if elected to the position of Assistant Chief Organiser.

According to Comr. Ogelegbanwei whose decision to vie for that position is his first stint at public leadership, revealed that the need to be a part of the solutions to the challenges facing the youths influenced his decision to join in the race.

In his words, "If I'm elected as Assistant Chief Organiser, I'm going to work hand in hand with the organising secretary to ensure GYC meetings are properly organised and that materials are mobilised to create the right atmosphere for a productive deliberation.

"Secondly, whatever ideas I have that will move the youth body forward I will freely share with my president and other council members, especially those ideas that will limit or reduce challenges facing the youths," he added.

Speaking further, he said, "Three prominent challenges before us as youths in Gbaramatu Kingdom are, one, the lack of jobs that is luring the youths into crime and other social vices. Two, we need sound education in terms of abundant teachers.

"So, if by the grace of God I'm elected as Assistant Chief Organiser, I will collaborate with other members in council like I've said earlier on. Therefore I'm appealing to the youths to give me their full support. I will not disappoint them if given the opportunity to serve," he appealed.
