The State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Delta State, Mr. John Vandi Kwaghe, has promised to embark on a familiarisation visit to Gbaramatu Kingdom in the Warri South-West Local Government Area of the state, soonest.
The Delta State NYSC State Coordinator made the pledge when he played host to the Gbaramatu Youth Council (GYC) executive leadership at the Isele-Uku NYSC Orientation Camp at Asaba, on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.
Among the GYC team are its President Mr. Egbejule Arerebo Kingsley; Secretary, Erike Raphael; Public Relations Officer, Wuruyai Maxwell; Financial Secretary, Evidence Onitsha; member of Parliament, Ikpidi Franklin, and Corper Coordinator (Gbaramatu), Pori Shedrack.
The GYC visit which is connected with the latest development of the non-posting of youth corps members to primary schools is also aimed at collaborating with the NYSC towards addressing challenges affecting quality education in the kingdom.
In his address, the GYC President, Mr. Egbejule Arerebo Kingsley, intimated the NYSC State Coordinator of the peculiar terrain of the kingdom and the efforts being made to address shortages of teachers in both primary and secondary schools.
According to the GYC, one of such initiatives to address the problem was the recruitment of private teachers in order to bridge shortages of teachers in the various schools across the kingdom.
The GYC President also informed the head of the NYSC Orientation Camp of the provisions of welfare in the areas of transportation, accommodation and stipends to serving corps members to make their stay in the kingdom comfortable during service.
He therefore appealed to the NYSC State Coordinator to look into the educational challenges and look into how the NYSC can help to ameliorate the plights of pupils and students, as well as build on the gains made so far.
Responding, Mr. Kwaghe thanked the GYC leadership for the courtesy call which he noted is a demonstration of the kingdom's love for education and as expressed in their commitment to advancing education by even hosting a maritime university.
He promised to look into the complaints submitted by the youth council of Gbaramatu Kingdom while he also assured them of the NYSC's resolve to improve on learning in the riverine kingdom.
"We are making plans to have a familiarization visit to Gbaramatu Kingdom. We have heard so much about that riverine kingdom and it would be our pleasure to be there," he added.
