Did you know that the smallest handbag in the world, a MSCHF microscopic bag, is smaller than a grain of salt and was sold for $63,750 (£50,569) at auction?

MSCHF, pronounced as "mischief", is an American art collective based in Brooklyn, New York, United States. The art collective has produced a wide range of artworks, ranging from browser plugins to sneakers, physical products, social media channels and AI generated foot photographs.

Founded in 2016 by Gabriel Whaley, CEO of the group, MSCHF, which operates as a company under the name MSCHF Product Studio Inc., as of January 2020, was reported to have received $USD11.5 million in funding.

MSCHF Microscopic handbag which requires a microscope to view the bag's design, measures 657 x 222 x 700 micrometres. According to the art collective, the microscopic bag is "Narrow enough to pass through the eye of a needle".

Speaking on the design, it said that the handbag features luxury handbag designer Louis Vuitton branding, but has no connection to the brand, and that it is made of photopolymer resin and was created using a 3D printing technology often used to make tiny mechanical models and structures. According to a report from the Smithsonian magazine, while being created, some of the tiny bag samples sent to be reviewed by the brand were so small that they were lost by the MSCHF team.

Bids for the item started at $15,000. Accompanying the handbag at auction is a microscope with a digital display to view the handbag.

MSCHF is known for its controversial designs, some of which include shoes that contain human blood, trainers with holy water in the soles, a cologne that smells like WD-40, and giant red rubber boots. Some of its designs have however spurred lawsuits. The art collective settled a lawsuit with Nike in 2021 over its sale of modified trainers containing a drop of human blood, and is also appealing in a Vans trademark lawsuit.
