SERVICE OF SONGS: Reflections as Families, Sympathisers Extol Late Mrs. Otede Comfort Kpenosen Nee Edelu

updated 02 May, 2024

Memories come alive at the Unity Baptist Church's Sanctuary of Refuge in Warri, Delta State, as some family members and sympathisers of the Late Mrs. Otede Comfort Kpenosen (Nee Edelu) recalled fond memories of the 77-year-old mother and grandmother during the Service of Songs ceremony that held in her honour on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

The brief ceremony which kicked off 5pm in the church premises and was officiated by Rev. Dr. N.E. Ayetin, was well attended by personalities from all walks, prominent among whom is the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor.

The one hour ceremony featured prayers, singing of hymns, Bible reading, presentation of biography of the deceased, tribute session, and among other activities a sermon titled 'A Life That Is Well Lived' by the Rev. Dr. Ayetin with Bible Text taken from 1 Corinthians 16:13-18.

In the sermon the Reverend charged those in attendance to emulate the peaceful and exemplary life lived by the deceased, just as he reminded his audience that a life lived devoid of Jesus Christ as one's Lord and Saviour is a wasted life.

In the tribute session, a family member, High Chief Vero Emmanuel (JP), who is a woman leader in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area, described the Late Mrs. Kpenosen as a very peaceful and caring woman

"Till date that I knew this my sister, I have never heard she quarreled with anybody. She is very peaceful. Even when you step on her toes, she will apply wisdom to avoid a confrontation. She is a very caring and peaceful woman. In fact, if I want to describe my sister we will not stop," she stated.

The woman leader went down memory lane and recalled how Mama stood by her during her nursing period, giving her all the necessary assistance, and ended her tribute with prayers of blessings and long life upon Mama's children.

A woman leader and elder in the Unity Baptist Church, Dcns Esther Anumogharan, noted in her tribute that, "Ever since we were in this church, I never saw her in a bad mood; she is always ever ready to support, even as a cell group member. Most people living around her she feeds them. We pray that her children will reap all the things she could not achieve," she prayed.

While Mrs. Lovina Emifoniye, another family member recounted, among other kind acts, how the Late Mrs. Kpenosen left her husband's Birthday party and traveled to Benin City in Edo State to support her after child birth and even when her children were getting married, Mrs Tina Odibo, who was physically emotionally vetted all that had been said in memory of the Late Mrs. Kpenosen and confessed how deeply she will forever miss the woman she always remember as "very calm and peaceful."

The ceremony was wrapped up with prayers for the children and other family members of the Late Mrs. Kpenosen, with a vote of thanks from the family.
