SERVICE OF SONGS: Late Dr. Abel Uttoh, a Model of Discipline, Compassion

updated 31 Mar, 2024

From Warri and environs in Delta State, gloomy-looking family members, friends and sympathisers trooped to Odoko Street, off Karen Street and Emebiren in Okumagba Layout, on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, to partake in the farewell ceremony of the Late Dr. Abel Uttoh, a popular tradomedical doctor who departed the Earth six months ago, on a Easter Sunday (April 9) after an illness.

As the ceremony draws to a close, the massive gathering of attendees were charged to model their lives after the tradomedical practitioner by using their lives to impact others positively while they are still here on Earth.

Giving the charge was the officiating Minister from the Open Doors Model Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Felix Atotajovwo, at the Service of Songs ceremony that was organised in honour of the late tradomedical doctor in Warri.

The sermon titled 'Man That is Born of a Woman' seems to have been inspired by the good and established works of the tradomedical doctor who the officiating minister attested to having heard so many good deeds concerning the deceased.

"The message is clear. There is only one thing that can be remembered when you're gone. What is your impact here on Earth? What will you be remembered for? I want to thank God for age. As one is growing old he becomes wiser. We have come to see that you're so wealthy [but] when you're going you're going alone. Nothing is going with you," pastor Atotajovwo remarked.

The minister in his message stressed on the challenges humans that are born of a woman go through in life, but reminded his audience that those who are the children of God will surely overcome.

He admonished his audience to put more focus in doing good works as that is what they will be remembered for, rather than the unnecessary toiling to amass wealth, bear many titles, marry wives, acquire properties which at the end will not accompany them to the grave, a place every living soul will end up in.

Earlier, the ceremony which began and ended with opening and closing prayers, witnessed the first reading taken from Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 and was read Mrs. Mercy Takor, the first daughter of the late tradomedical practitioner, and the second reading taken from 2 Corinthians 4:4-17 and was read by Miss Margaret Uttoh. Other highlights include the offer of prayers by ministers in attendance on the family members of the Late Dr. Uttoh, and the singing of hymns, notably the popular 'Fading Away' and 'Rock of Ages'.
