EDUCATION: NABLOGS wraps MCCD Tour with visit to Odimodi, appreciates sponsors, stakeholders

The two-day educational and community development initiative tagged ‘Movement for the Creek Child Development (MCCD) Tour' to selected communities in the Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State by the National Association of Burutu Local Government Students (NABLOGS), in collaboration with the Voice of The Ijaw Girl Child, came to a close with a visit to Odimodi Community in Iduwini Kingdom.

Recall that the MCCD Tour which lasted from Thursday, May 7, to Friday, May 8, 2026, is aimed at sensitizing inhabitants of communities visited on the collective roles that stakeholders comprising of individuals, organizations, school authorities, youths, parents, and community leaders can play in achieving sustainable educational and community development within creek communities.

The tour featured an anti-drug campaign rally and awareness against teenage pregnancy among the girl child, with stakeholders engaged through town hall meetings by resource persons who sensitized them on drug abuse and its effects, unplanned pregnancy, and the role of the youths in community development. Other activities during the MCCD Tour include the inspection of learning infrastructures, and the donation of free learning materials to participating pupils and students in the schools visited.

NABLOGS National President, Sen.Comr. Eserimokumor Ebipade Gideon, lamented the challenges facing creek communities in the areas of basic and learning infrastructures which continue to worsen poverty and sickness that lead to untimely death.

He expressed sadness that communities contributing immensely to the nation’s wealth through oil resources continue to suffer neglect, poor schools, lack of healthcare facilities, absence of drinkable water and poor power supply

On the issue of dearth of teachers in riverine schools, he appealed to the relevant education commissions and government agencies to employ qualified local graduates from Burutu LGA as teachers, noting that many non-indigenous teachers posted to the riverine communities often abandon their duty posts due to the difficult terrain.

Meanwhile, the co- convener of the MCCD Tour, Comrade Akpobolokemi Tamaramisensene Manna, who is the Woman Leader in Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Iduwini Clan, and Coordinator of Voice of The Ijaw Girl Child, appreciated the Ebenanaowei of Iduwini Kingdom, HRM Pere Bosu Dio, for sponsoring the programme to Iduwini Kingdom.

She also acknowledged Binebai Desmond, Mr Solomon Gbegha, Hon. Endurance, community leadership of Forcados and Okibou Zion communities for their sincere support.

NABLOGS on its part sent its unalloyed appreciation to Chief Mrs Iderimoere Mezeh, (the Yeibimo-Ere of Iduwini Kingdom, and Amabidou-ere of Tuomo Kingdom) and Comr. Emmanuel Preye Azorboh for donating writing materials that were donated to students during the tour.

They also expressed gratitude to Comr. John Jonathan, Vice President of the National Association of Odimodi Students (NAOS) for providing  the boat that conveyed the team around Iduwini/Kou Clan, with a special appreciation to Chief Peter Omorenyen, Chairman of Ofougbene Community for his huge support during the Iduwini tour; as well as to all the team members that participated.

Other main actor of the MCCD Tour are Miss Joan Tamaraukarebi Oyibo (NABLOGS Vice President), while facilitators include Comr. Elisha Kurofa (Okibou Zion Youth President), Comr. Ogbomi Festus (Secretary, National Union of Oborotu Students, NUOS), and Comr. Martins Amakubukoru (President, National Association of Odimodi Students, NAOS).

According to the student body, the MCCD Tour will continue in the coming months to other communities in line with fulfilling the vision of the NABLOGS 2026 Educational and Community Development agenda.
