BIOGRAPHY: Adieu Late Mrs Vick Kenedeke Kennedy Teibowei nee Tortor

The body of late Mrs Vick Kenedeke Kennedy Teibowei nee Tortor, a native of Opuede, Oporoza, Igoba and Kokodiagbene communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, has been laid to rest in Opuede as families and other sympathisers bade her final farewell on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.

In the early hours of the day, the body of the late mother of seven, 41 grandchildren and three great grandchildren departed the Noble Mortuary at Ovwian Udu Express way to her hometown via the Miller Waterfront near NPA Warri.

After a Christian funeral service that held in Opuede, the late Mrs Vick Kenedeke Kennedy Teibowei nee Tortor was committed to Mother Earth amid tears from her family members.

According to her biography as produced, the "Late Mrs Vick Kenedeke Kennedy Teibowei Nee Tortor was born in 1946 into the family of Mr. Timeyin Tortor (of blessed memory) and Mama Wenwen Seiwei. She is the first child from the loins of her parents. Paternally she hails from the Ibime quarter in Opuede Town, and from Oporoza Town, while maternally she is from Ugeh quarter in Kokodiagbene Town, and from Igoba Town.

"Mama lived well and supported her parents in their crafts while growing up. She is dearly loved by her parents and was fondly called by her late uncle, His Royal Majesty, Aketekpe (Zei-tiemo), the former Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, as “Idepele-ere” due to her humbleness and respect to other relatives.

"Late Mrs Vick Kenedeke Kennedy Teibowei Nee Tortor had no formal education due to the lack of accessibility to formal educational institution in her early days. However, she is a self-schooled woman who can write and read the Bible on her own pace. She was a great craftswoman; a good hair stylist, a seasoned fisherwoman and a businesswoman likewise.

"Late Mrs Vick Kenedeke Kennedy Teibowei Nee Tortor got married to her beloved husband, Late Kenedeke Kennedy Teibowei at her early adulthood. The marriage was blessed with seven children before the death of her beloved husband in 1989. The children are Samuel Kennedy (eldest son), Fanto Kennedy (daughter), Degiri Kennedy Johnholt (daughter), Ufanyi Kennedy Billings (daughter), Isaac Kennedy (son), Apostle Tamaraubrakemi Brake Kennedy (son), and Tamaralayefa Kennedy Stanley (daughter). Also, Mama had 41 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

"After the death of her husband, she relocated to her maternal home, Kokodiagbene Town, where she continued with her fishing craft for a while. Later, she turned to the business of buying and selling fish on full time. In those days, Mama would travel far into the creeks of Gbaramatu Kingdom with hand-pulling boat to buy fishes in bulk and then travelled to the urban city of Warri to sell her fishes. She is also a member of the Abala-ere Idi-yeri Ogbo of Ogbe-Ijoh Market. She engaged in that trade until her passing away.

"Late Mrs Vick Kenedeke Kennedy Teibowei Nee Tortor got born again in her early childhood. She was a former member of the white garment church in Tebujor. She is one of the early few people who first embraced Pentecostal Christianity in Gbaramatu Kingdom. Until her death, she was a devoted Pentecostal Christian who never worshipped or believed in any other gods except the God Almighty. Truly, Mama fought a good fight of faith.

"Mama is a socialite. She is a woman who loves to socialize with her peer group in the community and in the kingdom. Mama is one of the few early women that actively involved in community development and empowerment with the men of Kokodiagbene. She was an active woman leader among the women of Kokodiagbene in the days of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), operating in the Jones Creek, and Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL). Until her death, Mama is always active in the involvement of any community gathering, both at maternal and paternal."
