AWARD OF RECOGNITION: Woman Leader calls for women's participation in youth activism as GYC Honours Ejiro Bobo, Godstime Ayetan

Comrade Mesahrun Ejiro Stella Ekwetafia Bobo, a women leader and President of the Association of Delta Ijaw Women for Peace and Culture, has charged women in oil-rich Gbaramatu Kingdom to engage in the kingdom's activities in order to promote her heritage.

The women leader made the call during the second congress of the Gbaramatu Youth Council (GYC) Worldwide which held in Kenyangbene Community on Friday, November 6, 2026.

"I want to encourage the Gbaramatu women to come out en masse, involve yourselves, socialize, and bring the Gbaramatu name forward," she said during the second congress of the GYC which held in Kenyangbene Community on Friday, November 6, 2026.

Earlier, Comrade Bobo, alongside a youth activist and leader, Engr. Godstime Daniel Ayetan, were presented Award of Recognition by the GYC Worldwide in recognition of their outstanding contributions, hard work, and sacrifices toward the growth of the youth body and the development of the Gbaramatu community.

The awards were presented on behalf of the Council to Comrade Bobo by a former GYC Mobile Parliament Speaker, Frank Ekpemupolo Esq. and to Engr. Ayetan (received on his behalf by a youth representative) by a former President of GYC, Hon. Shadrach Ebikeme.

Speaking after receiving the award, Bobo expressed deep gratitude and joy, describing the honour as a reward for years of selfless service.

"I was awarded the recognition due to my contribution to the youth body (GYC) — the hard work and sacrifice for the Gbaramatu community," she said.

On how she feels in her being awarded the woman leader said, "I feel honored because when you work, when others are seeing your labour and they decided to honour you, you'll be honoured that at least I paid my dues and because of my labour, I was rewarded. So I'm honored."

Bobo dedicated the award to God Almighty and to the Gbaramatu female youths, recalling the challenges women face in their quest to be part of leadership and community development.

"In fact, I'm dedicating the award to God Almighty and to the Gbaramatu female youths. Because during our time when we were working, to see how we can bring out the name of Gbaramatu, mixing up with the men and running the race, others were busy looking at it behind the scenes, alleging that it's men's affairs we are running after. But we all are working to see how these women will also be in the front line, equal with the men," she explained.

The recognition of Bobo and Ayetan at the GYC Second Congress stands as a testament to their commitment to peace, culture, youth development, and women empowerment in Gbaramatu Kingdom and beyond.

Engr. Ayetan is a Member, Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE) and also a Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) certified Engineer.
