2027: Diaspora group calls on Pukon to vie for House of Reps in Warri Federal Constituency

A pressure group, the Concerned Warri Federal Constituents in Diaspora, has called on a former Councillor and former National Secretary of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, Hon. Frank Pukon (PhD), to vie for a seat in the National Assembly as a member of the House of Representatives in the Warri Federal Constituency that comprises Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South-West council areas of Delta State.

The group's call is contained in an official statement that was signed by Boukan Godwin, the Coordinator of Concerned Warri Federal Constituents in Diaspora, on Monday.

According to the pressure group, its appeal to Hon. Pukon is beyond sentiment and personal affiliation, but is objectively based on the track records of the former Councillor, who the group describes as experienced, competent and possessing the capacity to offer effective representation and leadership based on his antecedents in public office.

The pressure group also hinges that its appeal to Hon. Pukon arises on the need for a resourceful personality, which he possesses, to match and address current challenges in the Warri Federal Constituency and to offer visionary representation.

The statement reads in part, "The current realities and developmental needs of Warri Federal Constituency comprising Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South West Local Government Areas of Delta State require purposeful, competent, and visionary representation at the National Assembly.

"At a time when effective leadership is urgently needed to address pressing concerns such as infrastructure, youth empowerment, economic growth, and equitable representation, the call [that] today's constituency demands is clear: capable hands must step forward. Leadership is often described as a natural endowment. While certain traits such as charisma, humility, and a sense of humor may be innate, true leadership is ultimately defined by character, competence, and commitment to service.

"A good leader is self-aware, committed to personal development, dedicated to empowering others, ethically grounded, innovative in thought and action, and capable of effective communication across diverse communities. These qualities are not theoretical ideals they are practical necessities for anyone seeking to represent the diverse people of Warri Federal Constituency.

"It is on this basis that we, the Concerned Warri Federal Constituents in Diaspora, respectfully and strongly call on Hon. Frank Pukon (PhD) to present himself as a candidate for the position of Member, House of Representatives, Warri Federal Constituency.

"Our call is not borne out of sentiment or personal affiliation, but from careful observation of his track record and public service capacity. During his tenure as Councillor representing Diebiri Ward in Warri South West, Hon. Frank Pukon (PhD) demonstrated administrative competence, legislative understanding, and a genuine passion for infrastructural development and community advancement. His performance showed not only readiness for higher responsibility, but also a deep understanding of grassroots governance and constituency needs," the group noted.

The Diaspora pressure group further noted that Hon. Pukon embodies the qualities that grassroots governance entails especially as the Federal Constituency, just as it urges the former Councillor to yield to its call in the interest of the people and the urgency to deliver the expected dividends of democracy needed in the Constituency.

"Warri Federal Constituency stands at a critical crossroads and deserves representation that is energetic, forward-thinking, inclusive, and accountable. Hon. Frank Pukon (PhD) embodies these qualities and has consistently shown that he possesses both the experience and vision necessary to deliver effective legislative representation for the people.

"We therefore urge him to heed this collective call and step forward to contest for the position of Member, House of Representatives, Warri Federal Constituency, in service to the people and in the interest of sustainable development, unity, and progress across Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South West."
