VIGIL MASS: Families, Friends Honour Late Drama Queen Mrs Doris Fejokwu, Hold Candle Light Session

It was a solemn atmosphere at the St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Okpanam Road, Asaba, Delta State, the venue of a Vigil Mass (Service of Songs) ceremony that held in honour of the Late Mrs Doris Wariyinrin Fejokwu Nee Ekpetipu, on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.

A native of Kokodiagbene community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, the late Mrs. Fejokwu, popularly referred to as 'The Drama Queen' by her friends and close associates due to her friendly, energetic, social and dramatic nature which made her a center of attraction, passed away at the age of 52 years.

According to the programme booklet, the Vigil Mass ceremony was officiated by Parish Priest and Assistant Parish Priest, the Very Rev. Fr. Norbert Uchonu and the Rev. Fr. Valentine Odum, respectively, as well as by Very Rev. Fr. Peter Mobuogwu, Very Rev. Fr. Charles Uganwa, Very Rev. Fr. Henry Ogonwa, Rev. Fr. Mark Nwoko, and Rev. Fr. Charles Egwuenu.

The ceremony which kicked off 5:30pm  featured activities such as the singing of hymns, the reading of responsorial psalm, first and second Bible readings, a brief sermon, prayers for the family members of the deceased among other doctrines as practiced by Catholic faithfuls.

Back home in the residence of the Fejokwu's, a candle light session was held in honour of the late Drama Queen. The evening session saw friends eulogise the late Mrs. Fejokwu, as well as recalled fond memories of their engagement with her.

"It's actually a painful moment for everybody, a phenomenal pain," said Lucy, one of her friends, during the candle light session. She then proceeded in her description of her late friend as “a wonderful woman, a super-caring woman, a woman you can talk to at night, at day, a woman that sits besides you, and look into your eyes and say I'm with you.

Lucy also tearfully went down memory lane and recounted how the late Mrs. Fejokwu and the husband helped assisted and motivated her to overcome certain challenges in the past, and also how fondly both of their families have become.

Meanwhile, condolences poured in to the family of the late Mrs. Fejokwu, as friends sympathised with the husband, children and families over the loss of the deceased, urging them to be strong and to rely on God, just as they prayed for the soul of the late Mrs Fejokwu to rest peacefully in the Bosom of the Lord.

Among associations, clubs, forums, and groups that sent in their condolences include Chief Sunday Onoriode, the State Director of Protocol, Government House, Asaba; Smart Edoge Esq., Chairman of the Delta State House of Assembly Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Limited Estate Residents Association; Rt. Hon. Basil Ganagana for Ijaw Community in Asaba, Charles Ozoemena, President, Meet Africa Fashion Festival; Karo Ovemeso, Chairman, Administrative Officers' Forum (Delta State Civil Service).

Others are Arc. Anthony Uyaclumor, Chairman, Old Sec Trainers Allstars Club; Ebolun Emeka Anthony, Chairman, Blaze Allstarz Football Club; Edwin Ekpiri, Delta State Council State Secretary of Radio, Television, Theater & Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU); Lekan Obanewa for De Unlimited PureFun Family, the Management of Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS), Methodist High School Class of 1984, Delta On Air Personalities (OAPs) Forum, Domdomingos College Class of 1990, among others.

The late Mrs. Fejokwu, who passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, is married to Mr. Samuel Fejokwu, and the union produced two children: Tobechukwu Fejokwu and Ekenechukwu Fejokwu.

The remains of the late Mrs Fejokwu will leave the Safe Haven Mortuary in Warri to her hometown Kokodiagbene Community for her final funeral mass and interment on Thursday, August 29, 2024, while on Sunday, September 1, 2024, a Thanksgiving Mass holds at the St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Okpanam Road in Asaba, with a reception at Government House Squash Club, Asaba, Delta State.
