updated 04 Jan, 2024

The city of Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, was lit up with love on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, as it witnessed the first traditional marriage of the year between the bride, Ovoke Odafe, daughter of Capt. Odafe Omovo of Orhuromaro Quarters and Dcns (Mrs.) Ati Omovo of Kokodiagbene community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, and the groom, Prince Idarowan Umuko from the Umuko family in Uvwie.

The traditional marriage ceremony held at the residence of the bride's father in Ukuwhrere Close, New Layout off Jakpa Road, with family members and other guests from both the bride and groom's witnessing the once-in-a-lifetime event.

The colourful ceremony began outdoors on arrival of the groom, in company of his family, and were later entertained by the bride's family in a mild ceremony under the decorated canopies set up in the venue, before selected members of both families proceeded indoors to begin the payment of the bride's price.

Major highlights of the traditional marriage was the appearance of the beautiful bride after her bridal payment had been concluded, and who, being handed a glass of wine, searched out her beloved groom-cum-husband among the guests that were seated indoors.

Finally, both couple received prayers of blessings from the bride's father before they proceeded outdoors to announce their arrival to guests who have been waiting for the celebration of the union to begin after the bridal payment.

Come Saturday, the 6th day in January 2024, the newly married couple will proceed to the Word of Salvation Bible Ministry at No. 8 Umugben Road off Jakpa Road in Effurun at 9am for their wedding ceremony, to be followed immediately with a reception at Warri Ramp (former Shell Ramp) near Enerhen Junction in Warri.
