AMASUO-UGEH FESTIVAL: Kokodiagbene Prepares to Mark 19 Years of Cultural Tradition, Appeals for Support

The Chairman of the Amasuo-Ugeh Festival Planning Committee, Chief (Engr.) George Timiyan, JP, has called on committee members, stakeholders and the people of Kokodiagbene Community to give their massive support as the oil-rich community in the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State prepares for the 19th edition of the festival.

Chief Timiyan, who said the 2026 celebration of the festival, which began in 2007, would mark 19 years, however noted that Kokodiagbene had organised festivals for generations before Amasuo-Ugeh was established, and described it as one of the community’s festivals.

In a message to committee members ahead of a general meeting, the chairman urged its members to take their responsibilities seriously, stressing that every person on the committee had a role to play, regardless of the committee’s size.

The 2026 planning committee has 23 members, with Chief Timiyan as chairman and Sir Gabriel E. Ukuli as secretary.

Other members are Paul Diwere, Engr. Johnson Powede, Comr. John Arukarawei, Nani Mala, Tina Ighedo, Comr. Blessing Laide, Dcns. Mrs. Atti Odafe, Doris Eguare, Comr. Doutimi Cousin, Theresa Tolar Ehimika, Comr. Oweipade Eyebo, Iboh Ari, Comr. Esther David, Solomon Akoto, Solomon Keniye, Joseph Arukarawei, Hon. Emmanuel Isede, Madam Ebiere Timiyan, Elder Ari S. Ari, Mike Selegha and Comr. Ebipade Timiyan.

“Let us work together to achieve our goal,” Chief Timiyan said, urging both new and returning members of the committee to begin planning early and approach their duties with commitment.

Chief Timiyan also appealed to stakeholders who had pledged financial support to fulfil their commitments by making payments on time as the month of December, which is the period the festival is held, is very close.

He also called on all sons and daughters of Kokodiagbene, as well as friends of the community, to timely contribute to the programme through voluntary donations.

The Amasuo-Ugeh Festival Planning Committee was inaugurated at the Kokodiagbene Community annual general meeting on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, to plan the 19th edition.
