PROFILE: Some Fast Facts About Dr. Alfred Izon-Ebi (JKing)
The living musical legend and star-trending Izon musical icon, Dr. Alfred Izon-Ebi popularly known as JKing, launched his new book as well as unveiled his ultra modern event center/ studio on his birthday celebration that was marked in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
The ceremony, which was attended by fans and supporters of the Because of Love, Ozigizaga, Amaseikumor and Dibi crooner, had His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, and Senator Heineken Lokpobiri PhD, the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources as Special Guests of Honour, while Hon. Chief Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director/CEO of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) was Guest of Honour.
The Royal Father of the Day was HRM King Bubaraye Dakolo, the Ebenanaowei of Ekpetiama and Chairman of Bayelsa State Council of Traditional Rulers, while the Mother of the Day was Mrs Peremoboere Robert Ebizimor, wife of Late King Robert Ebizimor.
High Chief Engr Kestin Pondi, Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited was the Chairman of the Occasion; Engr. Matthew Tonlagha, Chairman of Maton Engineering Nigeria Limited and Executive Director of Fenog Nigeria Limited was Chief Unveiler, and Engr. Prince Preye Berezi, the Chief Executive of PFL Engineering Services Limited was Chief Launcher of the Book.
The Book, “Life and Melodies: The Music Realm of Izon-Ebi Alfred” was reviewed by Femi Okiremiette Shaka, a Professor of Film Studies, Department of Film & Multimedia Studies Faculty of Communication & Media Studies, University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, while its editors are Prof. Benedict Binebai, an Orator in the Niger Delta University, and Prof. Sunday Abraye, a former Acting Director in the Center For Niger Delta Studies.
Here are some fast facts about the celebrant and musical icon:
◼️ Dr. Alfred Izon-Ebi was born in May 1979 as Aguiyi Ironsi Alfred [probably named after Nigeria's first military head of state (3 March 1924 – 29 July 1966)] to Mr. Alfred Gbayena and Mrs. Kehinde Gbayena in Toru-Ndoro, Bayelsa State.
◼️ His father owned a chemist shop and is a lover of music. When he discovered his son has a talent for singing, encouraged him by purchasing a cassette player and Izon recorded albums to improve his son's music talent.
◼️ His father is a polygamist who had eight wives and fathered 36 children. His mother, Mrs. Kehinde gave birth to eight children and she is known for her business acumen.
◼️ Dr. Alfred Izon-Ebi first band he formed was 'The Mosquito Band' in his native hometown, where his talent caught the attention of King Dr. Robert Ebizimor (of blessed memory).
◼️ After joining King Robert Ebizimor Izon Brothers Band, he quickly rose to fame with his hit song "Duamabou". Also worthy of note is that the late King Robert Ebizimor gave Izon-Ebi his stage performing name.
◼️ Dr. Alfred Izon-Ebi formed his "Because of Love Crew" in 2011 and the band has since produced more than 174 musical albums that have earned him numerous awards and honours!
◼️ Dr. Alfred Izon-Ebi, who is a member of several national and Izon music societies, attributes the success of his music career to his father, Mr. Alfred, and his mentor, King Ebizimor.
◼️ Dr. Alfred Izon-Ebi is known for his dedication to his craft, one he executes with passion. This has contributed in helping him to receive numerous awards for his contributions to Ijaw music.
◼️ Dr. Alfred Izon-Ebi, a Christian, is happily married to Mrs. Winner Izon-Ebi and the union is currently blessed with three children.
