It was a colourful atmosphere at the traditional marriage reception of Mr. & Mrs. Gift Abraham Akowe as the latest couple were joined by the likes of Hon. George Ekpemupolo (former chairman, Warri South-West Local Government Council), Sir Godfrey Pondi (General Manager of Operations, Technical, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited), Chief (Hon.) Simeon Bebenimibo, among other eminent personalities from Gbaramatu Kingdom and from Ewobimi in Edo State, at the Ishaka Hotel along Refinery Road, Effurun, Delta State, on Saturday, August 31, 2024.

Earlier, the bride, formerly Miss Sophia Segun Ozubiri, the beautiful daughter of Hon. Segun Mulade (Vice Chairman, Okerenkoko Federated Community, Gbaramatu Kingdom) had her dowry payment at her father's residence by the groom, Mr. Gift Abraham Akowe, before both couples moved to the decorated venue in celebration of their union.

The ceremony, chaired by Hon. Ekpemupolo, was officially declared open with a prayer from Snr. Boan. Peter Ebieride German JP, the Minister-in-Charge of Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Bibopre Zion, Okerenkoko.

The reception activities centered on the latest couple making their entry into the venue, the cutting of their marriage cake, showcasing their romantic duty, their first dance together, presentation of gifts, refreshment of guests among other receptive ceremonies.

Izon Highlife musician, Chief Kingsley Takemebo and De Jesus Is Lord Band Crew were on ground to entertain guests with melodic Ijaw tunes with various women group gracing the dance floor to showcase their dancing skills.

"I have known my husband for more than half of my years in life," said the bride, Mrs. Sophia Akowe, in a chat with PENGlobal Social. "I knew him 2012 as a fashion designer; he makes clothes for my parents. Fast forward to 2022 when I was doing my youth service in Benin, that was when we had this connection and agreed to give it a try. But before then I haven't seen him for a long time," she further revealed as she shares her journey to finding the love of her life.

"However, we exchanged numbers and I don't know how the feelings started. Then I realize this is someone I've known 2012 and started a date with in 2022, and I was like he's still focused on his fashion design. He's grown bigger and done better," she confessed.

But it wasn't the success recorded by her husband that was the attraction for her, but rather his perseverance, patience, hard work, among other virtues she admired in him.

"It captivated me to know that in this generation when young people are focusing on Yahoo (fraud scheme) he's still focused on this profession. He's hardworking, consistent, patient, loving, he has a good heart, accommodating, has a listening ear as I've always wanted to get married to a man who listens and understands me. He takes me and sees me as mother," Mrs. Sophia admitted.

On her message to young ladies in search of the one for them, she said, "My advice to single ladies is that they should have good conduct; guys out there are always watching because they know what they want. They're watching us.

"Take for instance my husband. For the past 12 years he has been coming to the house to deliver clothes to my mum. For the 12 years he has been coming to our house, I didn't know he has been watching and observing me. And so, to single ladies, do your best. You don't have to be everywhere, like my dad will always say. Be reserved as a lady, you should know when to speak and to do the right things at the right time," she counseled.

When asked what was so special about her that made her husband to choose her as the one, she smiled and confidently said, "What attracted my husband to me, I can boldly say it's my intelligence. He always say that. Before our relationship started there were things he was trying to do but it wasn't easy on him. But when I came into the picture, we shared ideas and my opinions and all that which made things easy for him."

Congratulations to the latest couple as they begin another phase of their lives together. And as the saying goes, two hearts are better than one. But then we must also add that two hearts can do and achieve so much more together.
