The traditional marriage ceremony which held at the bride's father's residence in the Charlisco area near Niger Cat, Effurun, Delta State, was well attended by families, friends and well-wishers of the bride and groom.

Bridal payment in action

As is the tradition with native marriages in the southern part of Nigeria, the groom on arrival, along with his families and friends were welcomed with entertainment (comprising drinks, water and kola nuts) by the bride's family outdoors, also reciprocated by the groom's.

The day's business (the payment of the bride's price) was conducted indoors where the bride's family scrutinized the items presented by the groom as demanded by them. As in most cases, a little humour here and there (such as tasting the palm wine to verify its originality) would play out in the process among participants to keep guests lively.

The bride's father blessing the couple

The groom, along with his family, having fulfilled all requirements as demanded by the family tradition of the bride, was finally presented with his new bride, with both of them thereafter received special prayers of blessings from the latter's father.

Finally, both latest couples, Mr. & Mrs. Gift Abraham Akowe, looking so excited, in that very moment, fulfilled one of their dreams in life—a marital union built upon the foundation of love as they look ahead to another expectations of this new path they had decided to embark on together.
