LATE SNR. BOAN. CLEMENT OMOLE EREMENEGHA ODU: A Legendary Leader Goes Home to Eternal Rest [Part 1]

updated 31 Aug, 2024

At the age of 90 years, two aspects that stand out in the life of the Late Snr. Boan. Pa. Clement Omole Eremenegha Odu, a native of Okerenkoko Federated and Kokodiagbene Community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, is that he was adjudge as a man with a large heart guided by the fear of God, and as a renowned personality ingrained with factual historical knowledge of the community and others in the kingdom.

And so, while the former earned him a place of honour as Boanerge in the religious body of the Cherubim and Seraphim church at the Bibopre Zion, Okerenkoko, the other earned him a position of honourable leader having been inducted as a member of the Elders' Council, Okerenkoko community.

It was therefore not surprising that, at his passing, the funeral ceremony was besieged by a mammoth crowd of attendees from Okerenkoko and from other adjoining communities in the Gbaramatu Kingdom, as his reputation was like a wild fire that ignited the flame of admiration from numerous guests who sought the need to pay their last respect to the legendary leader on Friday, August 30, 2024.

The body of the Late Snr. Boan. Pa. Clement Omole Eremenegha Odu, which was placed in a white casket with golden lining at the edges, made its last journey in a motorcade from the Veenell Hospital Mortuary, Okumagba Avenue, almost an hour and half before noon to the popular Miller Waterfront near N.P.A. from where it was ferried by fast boat to the island community of Okerenkoko.

The mammoth crowd was such that available boats were outnumbered, creating a tussle-like situation as guests put in frantic efforts to not miss the once-in-a-lifetime ceremony of the Late Snr. Boan. Pa. Clement Omole Eremenegha Odu.

Finally, at Okerenkoko, the colour of white garment dotted the landscape as worshippers from the assembly of various C&S churches received the body of the late legendary leader, which at first was carried to his residence for a lying-in-state before the commencement of the Christian funeral service.

The atmosphere at Okerenkoko was one of a mixture of happiness and sadness. It was a celebration of an achievable life well lived, but at the same time it was a ceremony that brought grief on those, particularly family members and friends of the legendary leader, who desire he never kicked the bucket in the first instance.

The Late Snr. Boan. Pa. Clement Omole Eremenegha Odu passed away on 29th of May 2024 after a prolonged illness. He hails from the families of Odu, Tuafiyegha, Otolo, Oluba, and Akpata in Kokodiagbene and Okerenkoko communities, all in Gbaramatu Kingdom.
