LATE SGT. OWEIYEGHA ROWLAND IMOUN TONLAGHA: 28 Years Ago It Was A Pain But Today It Calls For Celebration — Rev. Imeleye Declares At Thanksgiving
The Thanksgiving Service that held in conclusion of the 28th Remembrance of the late Father and Hero, Sgt. Oweiyegha Rowland Imoun Tonlagha (of blessed memory) in Benikrukru community, Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, has brought to the fore the saying of King Solomon, son of King David, who once pronounced that "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven" (Ecclesiastes 3:1).
In the aftermath of the Thanksgiving Service, the Tonlagha Family hosted friends and other well-wishers to a get together reception at the family residence.
Meanwhile the Thanksgiving service at the Gate of Heaven Model Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) featured guest speaker, Rev. Emmanuel Imeleye PhD, who delivered a sermon titled 'Celebrating God With Thanksgiving', on Sunday, November 10, 2024.
Attended by members of the Tonlagha Family and other members of Benikrukru community, the Thanksgiving sermon by Rev. Imeleye re-echoes the need for humans to always remember to appreciate God and the need to make impacts in life.
He said, "There are three types of people mentioned in the statement (Psalm 77:11). Those who remember and those who forget. And those who neither forget nor remember. And the most important thing is those who remember.
"David, the writer of the Psalm remember when he was in trouble; he remember when he was in crisis. The enemies were pursuing him. Lion came, bear came. He remember when he was asked to leave the house because someone is coming to visit his father. But he also remember the time he became king in the midst of his brothers and all other good things.
"The Tonlagha Family no doubt must have experienced the loss of a dear father—the pain, the sadness, the sorrow of losing a dear father. And they must have asked, 'How do we survive?' Because the father was an illustrious and industrious person, a captain of a ship who has traveled to about 78 countries and who became a military officer.
"A lot of things must have run through their minds at that time. But now, they remember the glory that has manifested in the family. They remember also the progress they have made so far—in the family, in the field of education, business, influence, connections, and contact, and governmental service. They remember the goodness.
"Although the days of sorrow have passed, now they remember the goodness of God. That, 28 years ago it was a pain. But today, it calls for celebration. And then to us who are living, I said, we should not leave this world quietly. We should make some positive impact and positive noise through acceptable service like the late Sergeant," he added.
The late Sgt. Tonlagha will continue to be remembered for his many exploits and sacrifices in community engagement. That he is being honoured 28 years is a demonstration of the fact that no good works will go unappreciated.
