LATE DANIEL OKORO: Echoes of an Exemplary Life as Glowing Tributes Pour In
The life of the late Daniel Okoro from the Okoro Dynasty in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, is one that will continue to echo in the lives of those who knew him while he was yet alive.
This trajectory was unveiled at the funeral service conducted by the Church of God Mission (CGM) in Gbaramatu Kingdom, led by Rev. Eric Affun, the senior pastor of CGM branches in the riverine kingdom, where tributes poured in for the aviation worker.
The ceremony had in attendance some kingdom chiefs in the likes of Chief Dr. Nelson Ogelegbanwei (JP), Chief Miebi Aske, Chief James Tangbowei (JP), Chief Godwin Olufemi, Chief Joseph Wuruyai, Chief Wilson Igere, among other notable guests, including Hon. Godwin Febaide, the chairman of Oporoza Community, the venue of the funeral. Also leading the family members of the deceased in attendance is Elder Amos Okoro.
Also in attendance are fellow workers of the late Daniel Okoro, most whom embarked on the aquatic journey for the first time, in order to pay their last respect to their colleague whom they often referred to as 'D Leader'. They were led by one of his dear friend and Gbaramatu brother, Mr. Gai Edesemi Olufemi.
In his tributes, a family member, Victoria Okoro, described the deceased as "a caring brother, a peacemaker; strong, courageous, encourager, a lovely brother, and a solution giver" who settle disputes in the family. She also disclosed that even his neighbours, especially where he formerly lived before relocating to his own house, testified on the life of the deceased, portraying him as a human filled with compassion.
She prayed that God welcomes his soul in Heaven and that the family will never gather again for such a sad occurrence no matter the evil schemes of those who do not wish the family well.
On his part, Mr. Olufemi narrated an incident that occurred when he and the deceased were about to take their first air flight on assumption of duty. He described the deceased as more than a colleague who provides "solutions", ensuring that everyone around him are at peace.
He testified that some of the fellow staff flew in from Lagos to honour him because of the love they all have for him, and added that the late Okoro has been a good friend and brother to all of them, promising that the workforce will continue to stand by the family in support.
Mr. Olufemi, who said his relationship with the deceased is a very close one, lamented thus: "I have missed a friend and I have missed a brother, and it will be a vacuum that will be hard to fill" just as he prayed for such an ugly incident to never occur again in the lives of the Okoro family.
A member of the CGM at Okpaka in his tributes said the deceased who started worshipping with the church in January after moving in to the area, described the late Okoro as a "good man, a dedicated member and someone you can call on and he will answer you".
He said that on hearing of the sick state of the deceased, the church offered prayers during the period, but noted that only God knows what happened, while confessing that the sudden death was such that it affected members of the church because of his gentle and generous nature.
The funeral ceremony, which began with an opening prayer by Rev. Benson German, followed by praises and singing of hymns, Bible readings taken by Miss Tamarabrakemi Okoro and Dcn. Peter Guwor; with biography presentation by Edoutimiye Ebierede Okoro, was finally wrapped up with a sermon by Pastor Mrs. Eunice Okolafor and a prayer for the Okoro family by Rev. David Igenisuobai.
