KUDOS & UFUOMA: Kudos and Humour as the Amasisetuwapere 1 Shines at Traditional Marriage
Finally, the self-styled Niger Delta youth leader and groom, the Amasisetuwapere 1, Engr. Kudos Ogelegbanwei, has tied the nuptial knot with his long time friend and partner, Ufuoma Billy, in a traditional marriage setting in Osubi near Warri, Delta State, on Thursday, November 30, 2023.
Dressed in the Ijaw traditional native attire with a black hat to match that had the inscription of his self-proclaimed title, 'Amasisetuwapere 1' embroidered on it in gold, the groom along with his family and other well-wishers stormed the residence of their in-law to fulfill all requirements pertaining to marriage.
Both the bride and the groom are from Gbaramatu Kingdom in the Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State. While the beautiful bride hails from the family of Late Mr. Billy Ifiti Oboripuwei of Gbajor Idumu in Benikrukru Town and from Opuede Town, the groom is the son of the well-respected Tonwei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, High Chief Dr. Nelson Ogelegbanwei (JP) of Ikeretimi Idumu in Oporoza Town, headquarters of the kingdom.
After the entertainment session by both the Oboripuwei and the Ogelegbanwei's as part of the customary practice in traditional marriage, both families settled down for the ritual of the payment of bridal price but not without some humour.
As it happened, the spokesman of the bride's family, Mr. Azor Columbus, while leafing through the bridal list to ensure all the requirements needed to be given by the groom in exchange for the hand of their beautiful daughter had been fulfilled, however stumbled across a very previous item—palm wine.
He then decided to vet the palm wine presented in order to be sure it was the real stuff, not water. But on tasting the white substance on two occasions, he proclaimed it to be bitter, not sweet, a mild form of its rejection.
The groom and his family insisted that the palm wine to be original, not fake. However, after a third taste, Mr. Azor finally confirmed it was sweet, thereby laying to rest the apprehension of his in-laws. It would later be discovered that it was a stunt he had put up to add humour to the ceremony in his attempt to liven the mood of those in attendance, some of whom also indulged to taste from the white substance.
After completing the ritual of bridal payment, the beautiful bride, Ufuoma, was unveiled before the groom, her beloved husband, who responded by raining down crispy notes of the naira in the expression of his happiness and appreciation of his darling wife.
The newly married couple proceeded for prayers of blessings as they knelt down before Mr. America Oboripuwei, an elder who represented the father of the bride. Thereafter they proceeded outdoors for the celebration with guests that are already seated and awaiting the newly married couple to make an entrance.
The duo MCs Abioka and Collabo spiced up the ceremony with comic reliefs as fans of the Amasisetuwapere 1 hailed the youth leader and entrepreneur for finally making his relationship and his status official through his marriage with his beloved darling wife.
Following next is their Solemnization of their Holy Matrimony which comes up on Sunday, November 3rd, at the Eagle Wings Gospel Church Int'l in Atamakolomi Street opposite Church of God Mission, Enerhen near Warri, with reception billed at the Warri Ramp (formerly Shell Ramp) near Enerhen Junction in Warri at 12 Noon prompt.
We at PENGlobal offer our congratulations to the couple, Mr. and Mrs Kudos Ogelegbanwei, the Amasisetuwapere 1 on their successful traditional marriage ceremony as we wish them more joy, peace, and prosperity.
