HISTORIC VISIT: How Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Other Royalties, Dignitaries Storm Benikrukru Town March 6

08 Mar, 2024

The Pere of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom in the Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, His Royal Majesty, Oboro Gbaraun II (JP), Aketekpe, Agadagba, in company of the Pere of Olodiama Kingdom in Edo State, HRM Godwin Ogunoyibo, Alagbabunafa III; the Pere of Tubutoru Kingdom in Ondo State, HRM Oguruyeke, Okrimini 1, among other traditional chiefs stormed Benikrukru community on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, in an historic visit.

The visit, which is the second by the Pere of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom to Benikrukru, was an opportunity for His Majesty to assess the level of development of his home community since he last visited as well as commune with the people who had longed for his presence.

By midday, like wild fire, the news spread that the Pere had entered the creek waters enroute to the community with his entourage of water vehicles. In preparation, a local decorated boat stationed at its entrance, with its occupants colourfully performed onboard as part of the entertainment ceremonies planned for in welcoming His Majesty.

Dressed in the traditional white regalia outfit, the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, in company of his guests and others accompanying him on the historic visit, landed on the concrete jetty and disembarked from their watercraft into the waiting arms of the business tycoon, Mr. Matthew Tonlagha, Executive Director of Fenog Nigeria Limited; three little children that were decked in beautiful attires, a cross section of Benikrukru leaders and a large crowd of women, who, in reverence and as a sign of honour, bowed on their knees in homage as they chant praises to their king in excitement.

Impressed with their candour in welcoming him and other guests on the historic visit, the Pere of Gbaramatu, alongside others posed for a photograph with the little girls that had welcomed his entourage, after which they proceeded to the venue, with a large crowd of admirers trailing behind His Majesties.

There were cheers from the crowd as Aketekpe and his royal guests strolled majestically. He would once in a while waved at them, most especially when he entered the beautiful decorated arena whose setup was worth millions of naira. Indeed, the venue was a beautiful sight to behold.

Having arrived and taken their specially designated seats in the venue, the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom alongside the Pere of Olodiama Kingdom and the Pere of Tubutoru Kingdom, received their subjects' greetings as tradition demands, before the programmes of the event kicked-off.

The Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, who hails from the Oboro ruling house in Benikrukru community, ascended the throne as the 26th Pere of the kingdom in 2016. This visit is coming after His Majesty last visited on Friday, February 17, 2017.
