HISTORIC VISIT: Benikrukru Wows Aketekpe with Gifts, Colourful Cultural Display as March 7 is Proclaimed 'Benikrukru Day'

Giving all of their very best, the people of Benikrukru community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, hosted their revered traditional ruler, the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oboro Gbaraun II JP (Aketekpe, Agadagba), to a colourful ceremony on Wednesday, March 6, 2024.

His Majesty, in company of other royal guests among whom are the Pere of Olodiama Kingdom, HRM Godwin Ogunoyibo, Alagbabunafa III, and the Pere of Tubutoru Kingdom, HRM Oguruyeke, Okrimini 1, alongside some members of their council of chiefs, was at his ancestral home since his last visit seven years ago.

Among the colourful entertainment put up by the people of Benikrukru include cultural dance display by the community women and dance troupe as well as those from other communities in the kingdom.

Also performing at the historic visit were pupils of Benikrukru primary school, and an Ijaw fast-rising Lagos-based performer, Hero, whose stage performance was sponsored by Engr. Michael Tonlagha, a son of the community, to spice up the ceremony.

But asides cultural dance and musical performance, the people of Benikrukru, in expressing their love for their king also presented gifts comprising a golden walking stick, a bronze crafted crocodile (a sacred animal), a crafted seahorse and an art-crafted portrait mirrorless photo of His Royal Majesty among others.

In his response, the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom thanked the people for their affectionate entertainment display and show of love, and further revealed his amazement on the positive level of development ongoing in the community since his last visit.

Out of the abundance of his heart, propelled by joy, His Majesty proclaims that henceforth March 7 will be annually celebrated as 'Benikrukru Day', a pronouncement that elicited wild jubilation from members of the community and others in attendance.

His Majesty, just like he did on his last visit during the tour of the kingdom's communities, offered prayers of more prosperity and advancement of Benikrukru before his departure from the land of his birth.

Among top dignitaries in attendance are Niger Delta billionaire and organiser of Benirukru Chrismas Carnival, Mr. Matthew Tonlagha along with his wife Mrs. Esther Tonlagha; the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, Chief Kestin Pondi; the Fiyewei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Chief Amb. Godspower Gbenekama; members of the Christian community; Benikrukru community elders among others.
