GBARAMATU: Opuedebubor Exco Affirms Commitment to Serve, Appeal to Stakeholders for Support

updated 11 Sep, 2023

The Comr. Emotimide Theophilus-led executive of Opuedebubor community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, has promised their commitment to tackle the state of underdevelopment of the riverine community with a call for support from all stakeholders as its four years tenure kicks off.

The exco made the pledge at a swearing-in ceremony that held in the community town hall on Saturday, September 9, 2023, with the Amadiwei of Opuedebubor, Pa. James Akpowei; the eleco chairman, Mr. Victor Mala, among others, in attendance.

Other members of the newly sworn-in exco are Ojo Victory (vice chairman), Meeting Ebidoumene (secretary), Obode Patricia (financial secretary), Moses Patricia Teiwei (assistant secretary) and Element Roseline Teiwei (Treasurer).

Speaking after the swearing in ceremony, a youth leader, Hon. Fredrick Godstime, urges the new exco members to work in harmony as a team and that they should put the community's interest foremost before all else for its growth and development.

In a chat later with PENGlobal Community, the vice chairman, Comr. Ojo said the lack of development of Opuedebubor spurred their resolve to serve but that they will also need the massive support from all the major stakeholders to succeed in the task ahead.

In his words, "Because of the way the community is at the moment, we really don't like it. We, being led by the chairman Comr. Emotimide Theophilus, really want the community to move forward, develop, hence the coming of this government. But we cannot do it alone even though we are the executives; we need all Opuedebubor sons and daughters to join hands with us to make the change we all want possible.

"Among some of the infrastructural challenges facing Opuedebubor are the issues of flooding, no walkway, no good drinking water, no electricity. We call on the Nigeria Gas Company and the NPDC to help us construct seawall to reduce the effects of erosion in the community, to intervene in providing electricity, to create walkways and to even link our community to other neighbouring ones," he appealed.

Continuing, he added, “We also appeal to the Delta state government led by Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and our son and representative, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, to please come to our aid by siting a government project that can help reduce our sufferings.”

Highlights of the ceremony include the administering of oath of office and presentation of certificate of recognition on the newly elected exco members, a prayer of progress by the Amadiwei, and a refreshment session in entertainment to guests.

The Opuedebubor outgone executive are: Hon. Harrison Kembor (chairman), Moses Seikumor (vice chairman), Alex Mala (public relations officer), Oguma Happy (secretary), Frank Ukuli (financial secretary), and Layefa Wariya (assistant secretary).
