FUNERAL: Late Elder (Dr) Tunumugha Thompson Dauzide (Wire), a Legacy at Rest

It is often believed that doing good works by sowing joy in the lives of humanity is the best legacy that anyone can live behind in life because such legacies become testimonials among the living and will for long stand the test of time. That valdity seems to fit the Late Pa Elder Dr. Tunumugha Thompson Dauzide popularly known as Wire, who, before his death at 90 years old, was the oldest man (Ama-Okosuwei) of Okpele-ama / Tebujor community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.

The funeral ceremony of the Late Elder Dr. Dauzide (Wire) held on Friday, the 22nd day in December 2023, with a procession from the Ame Clinic Mortuary in Warri where the remains of the deceased was conveyed to his hometown in Gbaramatu Kingdom via the Miller Waterfront near NPA, for a social wake-keep ceremony.

The Late Elder Dr. Dauzide (Wire) was known as a disciplined and hardworking man, a tradomedical doctor and a pilot by profession, and was also known to be a talented artist as indicated in his biography, "Late Pa Wire was also known as a great artist in his time who used to draw some magnificent things... but couldn't go beyond that because he lacks educational mentorship."

His nickname 'Wire' derived from his state of being hardworking as he was known by both the old and the young alike "to be successfully industrious and hard working man" just as his biography, in reference to his profession, added further that "Papa was also known to be a Pilot with the Escravos Pilot Union and later retired to his normal fishing activities" and "was also known to be a good Tradomedical Doctor where he performs what he knows best by treating all kinds of sickness" that included "broken bones and all treatment related to the human body."

Described as "a specialist" in the field of traditional medicine, the Late Elder Dr. Dauzide (Wire) would be remembered for ages in the way and manner he rendered his professional services as he was known for "his kind attitude towards humans" and "never rejected treating any form of illness."

Moreover, through his career as a tradomedical doctor he was said to be have saved countless lives. "Papa was a great physician who has helped people with his God-given talent to save a lot of souls through the length and breadth of Gbaramatu Kingdom... for his sake, so many lived and are still living" with "Testimonies all over the places for his steadfast good work," his biography reveals.

The Late Ama-Okusuwei would also be remembered for the fun-like manner in which he performs his duty as a masseur. Describing his treatment approach, the biography reads: "His style of treatment as a tradomedical doctor most times come with fun, like he use to say when massaging the body or bone: 'mei-mei gba-mene jor bei ke, mei anike'; while doing this, the person is in serous pain [but] he never mind (sic) and he is not looking at the person."

The Late Pa Elder Dr Dauzide (Wire) married very late in life. He is survived by six children and 25 grandchildren, with five sons-in-law. In their collective tribute, they wrote: "Papa was known for the good things he did and did not take rubbish. Until his demise he was the Ama-Okusuwei of the community even when getting older in age, he was known for integrity and was a no-nonsense man... Papa, we will miss you dearly for the good things you have done to humanity especially for the people of Okpele-ama / Tebujor community and to the rest communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom. May your gentle soul rest in perfect peace, Amen," the children wrote.

The Late Elder Dr. Dauzide (Wire) whose remains was later committed to Mother Earth on Saturday morning in Okpele-ama / Tebujor community, hails from the Dauzide family of Beriyai-ware Quarter in Isaba Town, Isaba Kingdom; and from the Naike-Ebiyai family of Ikirentimi / Kenebra Quarters in Oporoza Town, as well as from the Ikpolukpo family in Igoba Town, all in Warri South-West LGA.
