Four football teams, split into two female teams and two male teams drawn from six local government areas (LGAs) in Delta South, jostled for the total prize of Two Hundred Thousand Naira at the College of Education field in Edjeba, Warri, Delta State, as part of the activities celebrating the upcoming wedding of a former President of the National Association of Gbaramatu Students (NAGS), Comr. Doubra Jeremiah Timiyan, to his bride, Queeneth Emmanuel Allison.

The novelty football match, which had male and female teams from the LGAs of Burutu, Patani and Bomadi, contending with those from Warri South, Warri South-West, and Warri North, held on Thursday, October 16, 2024.

While the female team representing Burutu, Patani and Bomadi defeated the team from Warri South, Warri South-West, and Warri North with a scoreline of two goals to nil, the male teams representing Warri South, Warri South-West, and Warri North defeated the teams from Burutu, Patani and Bomadi on penalty shootout (after a draw of two goals each) that ended with a scoreline of four goals to three.

The two winning teams each went home with the first prize of N60,000k while the losers each went home with the prize of N40,000k.

Speaking on the purpose of the novelty football match, the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Mr. Clever Igere, on behalf of other members Yankee Ebiowei (Secretary) and Paul Kemeze (P.R.O) said the football matches were organised to honour the ex-NAGS president.

He described the latest groom as a close friend, a comrade that is always nice, supportive and understanding, hence they deemed it fit to show him love as he ties the nuptial knot.

In his marriage wish for the couples, Igere said they wished them "a lovely and a peaceful home, a home of wealth and a home filled with love".

The wedding (Solemnization of Holy Matrimony) ceremony comes up 8:00am at the St. Matthias Anglican Church, Ugborikoko, Warri, a reception is billed to follow afterwards at the KFT Place (Rique Hall) along NNPC Housing Complex Road, Ekpan, on Saturday, October 19, 2024.
