BIOGRAPHY: Spark of Emotions as Service of Songs Holds for Late Chief Capt. Felix Bebekemiaye Adurumokumo Ekpetipu

Still struggling to accept the reality of events unfolding before them, the two daughters of the late Chief Capt. Felix Bebekemiaye Adurumokumo Ekpetipu, Mrs. Eni Latimi Uyatede and Mrs. Ebimoboere Otuaro (wife of the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Administrator, Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP, High Chief Dr Dennis Brutu Otuaro) battled to suppress their emotions at the Service of Songs ceremony observed in their departed father's honour at Apala Street in Warri, Delta State, on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.

It was indeed a packed house at the ceremony observed in honour of the departed, who until his sudden demise at the age of 82 years is the Amadiwei of Jones Creek community and a Leader of Thought in Kokodiagbene community, both in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of the state.

The ceremony, anchored by the God of Mercy Zion Cherubim and Seraphim Church, featured singing of praises to God, Bible readings, presentation of the biography of the deceased, testimonials from families and friends, a brief sermon hinged on the call to repentance, and prayers for the families of the deceased.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased will be conveyed from the Safe Haven Mortuary in Warri, to his hometown, Kokodiagbene community, for a final funeral rite on Thursday, March 20, 2025.

In the biography of the deceased as read by Mrs. Uyatede, the personality of late Chief Capt. Felix Bebekemiaye Adurumokumo Ekpetipu, is described as someone who seeks excellence as captured in his merritorious service delivery that earned him the rank of Captain.

The biography, reproduced hereunder, reads:

"Late Chief Capt. Felix Bebekemiaye Adurumokumo Ekpetipu was born on the 15th of October 1942 into the family of Ekpetipu in Ebiabo Quarter, Kokodiagbene Town and Ode/Ibime Quarters in Opuede Community, all in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.

"He attended Ebiabu Primary School from 1964 to 1970. In 1972, he was taken on board by his elder brother, late Captain Alfred Owei Mila Ekpetipu where he started his early career as a deck hand.

"In 1978, he was promoted as Captain due to his dedication and meritorious service. There in NPDC he served for several years before he left for greener pastures.

"He served in several companies during his career, among which is Julius Berger. Sailing on a cargo-run barge, towing across Nigeria and beyond from Warri to Port-Harcourt - Ajaokuta to Doala in Cameroon. Until his demise he was the Surveillance coordinator at Neconde NPDC Jones Creek Flow Station.

Tearful moments

"He was a community leader, leader of thoughts and also a Clan chief. He was survived by two children and eight grandchildren, nephews, uncles and in-laws among them is a notable personality of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP, Administrator.

"May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace, Amen. Adieu Papa!!!"
