BIOGRAPHY: Late Madam Kperike Helen Wanju Nee Wuruyai Finally Laid to Rest in Benikrukru

The remains of the late Madam Kperike Helen Wanju nee Wuruyai, who passed away in October 2022, was finally laid to rest in her hometown, Benikrukru community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of the state, after a social wake-keep ceremony on Friday, March 14, 2025.

Earlier, the body of the late Madam Kperike Helen Wanju was conveyed by family members in company of friends and other sympathisers from the Veenell Mortuary in Okumagba Avenue, Warri, Delta State, to her hometown.

The deceased who is survived by eight children, 20 grandchildren and four great grandchildren, is described as a business woman and a fashion designer, who toiled to support her family has been greatly missed since her demise after a prolonged illness.

Her biography reads, "Late Mama Kperike was born in 1943 in Oporoza community into the families of late Mr Wuruyai Ofinege Ere-eregha of Ikirentimi quarter, Oporoza; Nei-Bralabor quarter in Benikrukru, and the Agbolofor Koroware of Ogeh quarter, Kunukunuma; Fafa quarter in Pepeama community, all in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area.

"Amongst Mama's siblings are the now deceased Adede Wuruyai Imeleye, Okpiri Wuruyai, Akafawei Wuruyai, Enugu Wuruyai.

"She lived her early life in Benikrukru community, engaging in fishing activities with her parents and got married to late Pa John Ari and the union was blessed with two children, Mr Oliver Ari (deceased) and Mrs Bodonghayefa Fatima Tukur.

"She later married Pa Wanju Yadofigha and the union was blessed with seven children namely Tunpa Wanju, Billy Wanju, David Wanju, Idolor Wanju, Ebiyemi Juwegha, Anthony Wanju and Albert Wanju.

"She relocated with are husband to Lagos state where she lived for several years. She was a business woman and a fashion designer. Mama also lived in her maternal home, Kunukunuma, from 1992 to 1999.

"In 2009 she moved back to Warri and later stayed in Ogulagha community, her husband's hometown, for several years. Due to health challenges, she again relocated to Warri, where she was been cared for before she joined her ancestors in October 2022.

"Rest in peace mummy. We will miss you," the biography ends.

In the early hours of Saturday, March 15, her remains was committed to Mother Earth after a brief funeral service at the graveside, her final resting place.
