AMASEIKUMOR 2024: Showers of Prizes as GYC Reward Winners of its Sports Competition

The Mr. Egbejule Kingsley-led Gbaramatu Youth Council (GYC), in collaboration with the Comr. Zikurebai Wazo-led Gbaramatu chapter of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), have rewarded winners that participated in the sporting activities of the 2024 edition of the Amaseikumor Festival with cash prizes among other gifts.

The presentation of prizes took place at the grand finale of the Amaseikumor Festival that held in Oporoza Town, the traditional headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom in the Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, on Wednesday, April 17, 2024.

The GYC had put together various sports competitions ranging from football, cooking, draught, to tug of war, wrestling, among other side attractions to spice up this year's annual festival.

Among the notable guest that presented the winning prize in the football tournament is the Ibe- Serimowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom and National Coordinator of the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ, Chief (Comr.) Sheriff Mulade.

In football competition, Umbi FC went home with N300,000k (three hundred thousand naira) while the first runner up, Diebiri FC, received N200,000k. The third-place winner, Ogbe-Ijoh FC, went home with N100,000k (one hundred thousand naira).

In the cooking competition, the participant winner representing Okerenkoko received N100,000k (one hundred thousand naira) as winner. The award prize was initially N50,000k (fifty thousand naira) but supporters volunteered extra addition as a gift for making the community proud. While the second-place winner, participants representing Kurutie, received N30,000k (thirty thousand naira), others who participated representing Oporoza, Pepe-ama and Tebujoh were each gifted N10,000k (ten thousand naira).

In the draught competition, the winner, Umbi (Obotobo community in Burutu Local Government Area) went home with N30,000k (thirty thousand naira) while the second-place winner, Bomadi in Bomadi L.G.A went home with N20,000k (twenty thousand naira).

In the tug of war competition, the female winner and the male winner were each awarded the cash prize of N50,000k (fifty thousand naira). The participating contestants were grouped into Gbaramatu Ward versus Oporoza Ward. The latter emerged winner in both games.

The organisers were also presented with medals in appreciation for the roles they played in the success recorded in the GYC sponsored tournament.
