AMASEIKUMOR 2024: GYC Releases Programmes in Celebration of Annual Festival, Invites General Public

The Gbaramatu Youth Council (GYC), the umbrella body of youths in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, has released its set of programmes comprising of various sporting activities the youth body is organizing as part of the events marking the annual Amaseikumor Festival billed to commence on Friday, April 12, 2024, in Oporoza Town, the traditional headquarters of the kingdom.

This was made known to PENGlobal Entertainment in a statement released by the GYC President, Mr. Egbejule Kingsley, and its Secretary General, Hon. Erike Raphael, over the weekend.

According to the GYC, there will be exciting sports tournament ranging from football matches, tug of war, draught matches, cooking competitions, essay writing, Ijaw traditional wrestling, and a lot of other exciting social activities.

Giving more details on the football tournament set to hold in Oporoza, a total of eight teams split into two groups of A and B will be competing for the top place position. Teams in Group A comprise of: Oporoza FC, Egbema FC, Ogbe-Ijoh FC, and Ogulagha FC; while teams in Group B comprise of Gbaramatu FC, Diebiri / Batan FC, Umbi FC, and Odimodi FC.

A breakdown of the various scheduled football matches are as follows:

◼️DAY 1 (Fri, April 12)
Oporoza FC vs Egbema FC (8am)
Ogbe-Ijoh FC vs Ogulagha FC (10am)
Gbaramatu FC vs Diebiri/Batan FC (2pm)
Umbi FC vs Odimodi FC (4pm)

◼️ DAY 2 (Sat, April 13)
Umbi FC vs Gbaramatu FC (8am)
Odimodi FC vs Diebiri/Batan FC (10am)
Ogbe-Ijoh FC vs Oporoza FC (2pm)
Ogulagha FC vs Egbema FC (4pm)

◼️ DAY 3 (Sun, April 14)
Umbi FC vs Diebiri/Batan FC (8am)
Odimodi FC vs Gbaramatu FC (10am)
Egbema FC vs Ogbe-Ijoh FC (2pm)
Ogulagha FC vs Oporoza FC (4pm)

◼️ DAY 4 (Mon, April 15) - SEMI
Winner A vs Runners Up B (9am)
Winner B vs Runners Up A (2pm)

◼️ DAY 5 (Tue, April 16) - FINAL
Winner 1 vs Winner 2 (2pm)

"In addition to the football tournament which promises to be a spectacle for all sports enthusiasts, spectators can also enjoy the vibrant ambiance of the Amaseikumor traditional festival that will feature traditional music, dance performances, local cuisine, and cultural exhibitions showcasing the Gbaramatu Ijaw culture," the GYC noted in its statement.

The youth body leadership therefore extend invitation to the general public to be a part of the history of the 2024 Amaseikumor Festival which it said promises to be a memorable one.

The Amaseikumor Festival is an annual event that is celebrated by the people of Gbaramatu Kingdom from ancient time immemorial and is believed to attract peace and prosperity to the kingdom. During the period marking the festival, spiritual cleansing of the land as well as masquerade display and other traditional activities are observed.
