2024 ROYAL BIRTHDAY: How the Ebenanaowei of Ogulagha Kingdom Kickstarts Celebration in Obotobo
"God answers a woman's prayer faster than a man's," the Queen of Ogulagha Kingdom, Nurse Timiyan JP pronounced on the microphone as she knelt down to perform her spiritual assignment before her husband, the king and Ebenanaowei, His Royal Majesty, Elder Capt. King Joseph Ijawperebo Timiyan PhD JP (Torububou 1, Agbonu).
The date was Wednesday, 27th of March 2024, in the early hours of the morning, and the venue was the private residence in Obotobo community of the first citizen of Ogulagha Kingdom in the Burutu local government area of Delta State.
Earlier in the day, a handful of the king's subjects, accompanied by entertainers comprising a drummer and two trumpeters who were armed with a mobile speaker, had arrived at the residence. Their mission was to kickstart the king's birthday on a warm note, and most importantly, to witness a very important spiritual exercise.
As has been the tradition, in every Birthday of the Ebenanaowei, women in the kingdom, particularly the aged, gather together to offer prayers to the king. Their prayers usually encompasses protection from evil, as well as blessings, long life and prosperity.
After rendering the song, Happy Birthday to you, and having paid homage to their king, the celebrant, in company of his subjects proceeded downstairs where some aged-women from various communities in the Ogulagha kingdom, were seated and waiting.
One after the other, each aged-women took turns to pray in the Ijaw native dialect for the king while the audience would intermittently echo "Ise" (Amen) to their prayers. This exercise is so important that even a phone call was put across to one of the aged-women, who due to her fragile state, could not be present, but conveyed her prayers of blessings across (made possible through the power of technology).
Asides aged-women, other women in the kingdom that were present also took their turns to offer goodwill prayers to the king. The long line of prayers at the 2024 Birthday edition of the Ebenanaowei was wrapped up by one of the oldest chiefs present, Chief Prefugha Karawei JP.
As mentioned at the onset, the Queen of Ogulagha Kingdom also filed out before His Majesty. She had been entrusted with the task, in honour as Queen, to undertake the last of the spiritual exercise for her husband and king. Surrounded by other women folks, with authority as a wife and Queen, she proclaimed protection and blessings upon the Ebenanaowei, her beloved husband.
To whom much is given, much is also expected. In line with this, the Ebenanaowei appreciated his subjects for availing themselves to the spiritual exercise. His Majesty thereafter declared blessings upon them through prayers, backing up his benediction with authority as a king and the owner of the kingdom.
And as subjects of the king and other guests dismissed from the venue to prepare ahead for the proper Birthday celebration activities scheduled for the day, one thing that struck me is the bliss and the manifestation of God's blessings upon the life of the Ebenanaowei. However, that should not be too hard to discern. As I watched the Queen standing besides the King, her presence revealed the open secret—as a man, if you want to succeed in life, asides the prayers of your mother and other godly women, you sure need the support and the prayers of your wife. Neglecting her will be like shooting yourself in the foot. Nothing is more priceless than having a positive praying wife!
Congratulations to the Ebenanaowei of Ogulagha Kingdom and more wisdom to rule over the kingdom and its people.
