19TH CORONATION: The Place of Homage and the Royal Prestige of the Ebenanaowei of Ogulagha Kingdom

updated 22 Nov, 2024

The 19th Coronation Anniversary of His Royal Majesty, Elder Capt. King Joseph Ijawperebo Timiyan PhD (JP), Agbonu, Torububou 1, the Ebenanaowei of Ogulagha Kingdom in the Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, which held at Obotobo community on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, has come and gone, but not without its mix of traditional symbolism as practiced by the people.

One of such is the place of homage. Though not unique to the Ogulagha people alone, as the practice and tradition is familiar with the Ijaws, other ethnic nationalities, and even foreign royalties, however, for the Ogulagha people, it is one they demonstrate with pride.

The Ebenanaowei of Ogulagha Kingdom

The tradition of homage symbolises recognition of the Ebenanaowei as the owner of the kingdom; and practically demonstrates loyalty before His Majesty. It is also an act that shows his prestige or superiority above all earthly mortals in the kingdom irrespective of class.

This honour apportioned to kings stems from the ordination they have received from the Almighty God, in whose stead they administer leadership over the people, in line with His instructions.

More significantly, since the Almighty God is a supernatural Being not beheld with the physical eyes, mortal men whose sights are of the flesh are assigned a representative of the Supernatural Being in whom they can behold and demonstrate honour in the physical realm

Thus the Ebenanaowei like other royal heads is a symbol that represents the Almighty God. And so, when his subjects bow before His Majesty, they bow before the Supernatural Being. The Biblical counsel of "Touch not my anointed, and do my prophets no harm” (Psalm 105:15 and 1 Chronicles 16:22) is a demonstration of this golden fact.

This homage paying to His Majesty births royal prestige, one which neither money nor academic qualifications can bestow on the personality of the Ebenanaowei and other royal figures, buy one that is given by divine ordination.

As the people of Ogulagha Kingdom and other well-wishers of the Ebenanaowei look ahead to two decades of His Majesty's reign (20th Coronation Anniversary), a testimony they can all testify to is the fact that those who are obedient are eating the good of the land (Isaiah 1:19) and those who bless and honour the Ebenanaowei will also be blessed and honoured (Genesis 12:13).
