WSW LG ELECTION: APC councillorship candidate Ogrenfa alleges no polls in ward, calls for reschedule of election

13 Jul, 2024

The All Progressives Congress, APC, councillorship candidate representing Oporoza Ward 16 in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, Pina Ogrenfa, has raised alarm that no election held in his polling unit and ward in the LG election fixed for Saturday, July 13, 2024.

Recall that LG elections to be conducted by the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, DSIEC, to elect a chairman and councillors into the LGAs across the State was scheduled for Saturday, July 13.

Speaking to PENGlobal Politics, Ogrenfa alleged that in the two wards i the kingdom, DSIEC officials were not on ground to conduct the election.

The councillorship candidate further claimed that a purported video making the rounds online on social media with claims of ongoing election is false and should be disregarded by the public.

"My name is Pina Ogrenfa. As I speak to you  there is no single election in my unit and DSIEC Ward 16 in Gbaramatu Kingdom. I am a councillorship candidate. There are two wards in Gbaramatu Kingdom, the Oporoza Ward and Gbaramatu Ward. No single election held. Moreover, the video circulating online of election taking place is false.

"I am therefore calling for a reschedule of elections in the affected wards in the Warri South-West local government area because we will not accept any results from the area declared by DSIEC," he appealed.

Backing up the claims of the APC candidate, the APC Gbaramatu Ward 4 Chairman, Comr. Peterkings Oturubo, confirmed that no election held as voting materials and DSIEC officials did not arrive at the wards.

"We arrived Ogbe-Ijoh in the morning and it was about 10:30am they assigned the materials to their various locations. But the materials for Gbaramatu Ward and Oporoza Ward were returned back to Ogbe-Ijoh.

"We had boats available with security on ground to convey the DSIEC officials. It was for us to go to our various locations to cast our votes, but they said they are not going anywhere that we are to cast our votes at Ogbe-Ijoh primary school.

"So, the two wards in Gbaramatu Kingdom did not cast a single vote. No materials left Ogbe-Ijoh to those locations. So no election held in our wards," he added.
