WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY: Bebenimibo salutes Tantita, calls on FG to sustain, consolidate gains
As more than 143 countries celebrate the World Environment Day (WED) 2026, a youth leader in the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr Andrew Bebenimibo, has hailed Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) for its greenery transformation of the once-polluted Niger Delta region in less than half a decade of its operations.
In an official statement issued on Friday, June 5, 2026, Bebenimibo acknowledged the contributions of the security firm chaired by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo, to preserving the natural habitat through its protection of critical oil and gas infrastructure across the Niger Delta in curbing crude oil theft and sabotage.
He stated that the actions of Tantita, professionally managed by High Chief (Engr.) Kestin Pondi, align with the aims of WED, the global event that serves as a platform for raising awareness on environmental issues such as marine pollution, overpopulation, global warming, sustainable development and wildlife crime.
He said, "This is not just a call for contract signing or extension, but to appreciate Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited for the wonderful work they have done to sanitize our environment," he clarified.
Speaking on the impacts of Tantita, he said, "Those of us living in the Niger Delta now have a fresh breath to take in the morning. There is no more black soots; you can comfortably wear white clothes and travel on our water ways without the fear of crude oil spills or soot staining your clothes. The waters are clearer, fishing activities are booming.
"At the national and international levels, Tantita's bold greener initiatives have led to increase in oil output, improvement in Nigeria's oil and gas ratings, and has made the country to rank among the top destination for investors," he added.
Bebenimibo therefore called on the "Federal Government to sustain and consolidate on the achievements made so far by Tantita," and added, "I don't think any other company would have done better."
TSSNL was awarded its first major high-profile pipeline surveillance contract in August 2022 by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), and has been able to eliminate oil theft and pipeline vandalism among other achievements that brought about increase in oil production and more revenue for both the federal and the state government.
The security firm offers solutions on asset protection, consulting and advisory, intelligence and risk management, security devices and equipment, technology and system integration, and training and capacity building.
The WED, first marked in June 5, 1973, is a call to protect the natural environment and to take urgent action to end pollution, including plastic, from production to waste, which contributes to climate crisis and environmental degradation. The theme for WED 2026 is "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future".
