WARRI SOUTH-WEST: APC Candidate Mamamu promises scholarships, healthcare as Ayiri canvasses for LG Autonomy
Ahead of the July 13 local government elections in Delta State, the chairmanship candidate of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) political party in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Amb. Bene Mamamu, has promised to provide scholarships and healthcare facilities across the wards in the council area if elected into office.
Amb. Mamamu made the promise at the party's campaign rally at Ogbe-Ijoh Town, headquarters of Warri South-West LG Council, on Monday, July 8, 2024.
The APC chairmanship candidate, after receiving the party's flag from the party's state chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, represented by the senatorial chairman of the party, in company of a prominent chieftain of the party, Chief Ayiri Emami, among other party faithfuls, said:
"Me, I believe in action. I'm an action person. How can you be there when Local Government cannot train at least 20 persons to abroad annually? I am coming to train 20 people annually.
"Me and my councillors and my vice will make sure we give scholarships to every DSIEC ward annually. And I will tell you that every ward will have health center including hospital. I will tell you that the secondary school and the primary schools, all their scholarships will be under the local government.
"I want to tell you categorically come 13th July, come out en masse, don't be afraid of anybody. Come vote APC," he chanted to the crowd.
Earlier on, Chief Ayiri, who was welcomed by a large crowd in the venue of the rally, while addressing party supporters, threw his weight behind the Federal Government's move to grant autonomy to the LG which he believed will put an end to imposition of candidates on the people.
"God that brought us together did not make a mistake. But the mistake we are making is bringing the wrong people to come rule us. The one that left my local government recently, his work is zero percent," he alleged.
Speaking further, he added, "Do you know why I am supporting Asiwaju? If the things I have been saying the people are obeying them, we would have achieved much development. But very soon it will be obvious.
"If I help people at my own capacity, and if I am defeated in my ward, don't you think something is wrong? Those wrong things is what we are telling Asiwaju to fix. Local Government autonomy. If Asiwaju gives us local government autonomy, won't these things stop?" he queried.
Also present at the APC campaign rally are the various councillorship candidates from the vaious wards in the council area who storm the venue along with their supporters bearing various banners and placards.
