TOMPOLO: Niger Delta activist Chief Patrick Bigha tasks EFCC to go after corrupt politicians

12 May, 2025

A Niger Delta activist, Chief Patrick Bigha, has tasked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to let alone High Chief Dr. Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo, and to instead go after corrupt politicians in the country whose cases have been in the Commission for several years without their conviction.

Chief Patrick, in a statement he signed, was reacting to the news circulating on the social media of the intent by the EFCC to invite Tompolo for questioning over alleged abuse of the naira.

According to him, the EFCC should be serious in waging its war against corrupt elements in the society by going after corrupt leaders rather than coming after a personality like Tompolo whose contributions in securing oil and gas pipelines have helped revived the oil sector in the country.

He said, "The EFCC chairman should go after the corrupt politicians. Tompolo is not a politician, he is not a political office holder. They should leave him alone.

"Touching Tompolo is touching the eyes of the Ijaw people. I repeat, the EFCC should go after the corrupt politicians in Nigeria.

"We are having on a daily basis corrupt politicians. A particular politician's corrupt case who's facing sex scandal is pending; the ex-governor corrupt cases is still pending in the court case in EFCC," he alleged, stressing that such personalities are what the EFCC should be probing.

"Those sponsoring Boko Haram terrorists, the insurgents and others that are killing citizens and destroying the country should be the focus of the EFCC," he charged.

He therefore warned, "I'm advising the EFCC chairman that he should fight a right fight. Tompolo is not the problem of Nigeria. Tompolo is the one who is protecting Nigeria oil and gas industry, protecting oil and gas assets toward where we are now. He's the one promoting peace in the country," he added.
