TOMPOLO: Hon. Ejoh writes EFCC

updated 13 May, 2025

A Niger Delta leader, Hon. Franklin Ejoh, has written an inquiry to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, seeking the anti-graft agency's recognition and support of the initiatives of High Chief Dr. Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo towards uplifting the needy and promoting peace in the society, rather than attempts to belittle the Niger Delta leader.

The letter from Hon. Ejoh, which has as its subject, "Inquiry Regarding Empowerment Initiatives and Community Development", was issued on Tuesday in reaction to the EFCC's ploy to question Tompolo on alleged abuse of the naira.

In the letter, Hon. Ejoh determined to know from the EFCC if there are any legal framework, regulations and guidelines concerning empowerment and community development that is supposed to guide the actions of the High Chief who is known to be passionate in transforming the Niger Delta region.

According to him, Tompolo's moral efforts in the region which complement those of the government and security agencies in improving livelihoods and stemming criminality deserves commendation.

The message reads:

"Dear EFCC Team, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to bring to your attention an important topic related to community empowerment and development in Nigeria, specifically concerning the initiatives led by High Chief Dr. Tompolo, the GOC of the Niger Delta.

"As a concerned citizen, I believe it is essential to discuss the morality and legality of empowering the needy within our communities. High Chief Dr. Tompolo's efforts in providing support and resources for those in need have resulted in increased happiness and improved livelihoods among the people. Furthermore, building infrastructural facilities such as police stations contributes positively to the comfort and security of our communities, which is a pressing need.

"In this context, I would like to invite the EFCC to consider the following questions:

"1. Is there a legal framework that governs community empowerment initiatives, and how can it be aligned with efforts to combat poverty and insecurity?

"2. Are there any regulations or guidelines regarding the establishment of community development programs that local leaders like High Chief Dr. Tompolo should be aware of?

"3. How does the EFCC view the relationship between community empowerment and the prevention of crime, given the saying “idle minds are the devil’s workshop”?

"I come in peace and with a genuine desire to see our communities thrive. It is my hope that the EFCC recognizes the significance of these initiatives and supports efforts that uplift the needy and promote peace within our society.

"Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.

"Sincerely, Honorable Franklin."
