updated 12 Sep, 2023

A community leader from Kokodiagbene in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West council area of Delta State, Chief Felix Eguare, has appeal to the President Bola Tinubu-led government to extend the pipeline surveillance contract of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, as the security firm's giant strides in reducing not only oil theft but also in renewing hope of a pollution-free environment, is a sign of a "new dawn in the Niger Delta" that must be sustained.

The captain of industry made the pronouncement during a chat with the press on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, in Warri.

Chief Eguare, who is the Yirindewei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, also stressed that the riverine communities cannot go back to the era of incessant pollution of the waterways which over the years has negatively impacted on the wellbeing of the people and increased their level of poverty.

"Our greatest joy in the pipeline contract of surveillance to Tantita is its effort to restore our ecosystem. Many of us did not really anticipate that it would result in the cleaning up of our waterways from crude oil remnants.

"I tell you, if the cleanliness of the environment improves within another one year, just like in the past months, especially when Tantita came on board, many of us would be relieved from unnecessary financial pressures heaped on us by members of our families in the poverty net.

"This is because our people in the creeks have been suffering because of the contamination of our natural habitat as they cannot go fishing. But now, that ugly situation is gradually receding as our people can now go fishing and earn a living for themselves," he confessed.

The Yirindewei who also alluded that since President Tinubu is running with the slogan of a 'Renewed Hope' "it is only wise that his administration critically look into the results of Tantita and weigh in on taking the right decision, which is none other than to ensure than Tantita continues the contract, so as to build on the current achievements so far", stressing further than "failure to do that means a return to the old order, but God forbid!" he proclaimed.

Chief Eguare noted further that asides the gradual restoration of the ecosystem in the riverine communities, Tantita's operations in collaboration with other security agencies of the government have led to increased output in oil production which will avail it (government) of the needed funds to put the country on the path of economic recovery.
