SCHOLARSHIP: IYC Gbaramatu announces closure of portal, assures applicants of disbursement
The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) in Gbaramatu Kingdom led by its Chairman, Comrade Wazo Oyinkuro Zikurebai, has announced the closure of the Gbaramatu tertiary student bursary application portal for its earlier advertised third phase of its Supplementary Educational Support Scheme (SESS).
The announcement, signed by its Information Officer, Ari Ebimotimi, was officially released to the public on Monday, November 24, 2025.
"This is to inform the general public, and specifically tertiary students within the Gbaramatu Kingdom, that the Gbaramatu Tertiary Student Bursary application portal is now officially closed," part of the statement reads.
The IYC Gbaramatu Clan further stated that the closing date for the application, which was November 14th, was extended to give more opportunity to interested students from the kingdom.
"The application process, which began on October 23rd, was originally scheduled to end on November 14th. However, it was extended to November 23rd to accommodate broader participation."
The youth body thanked stakeholders for their support and reassured applicants of disbursement of funds as soon as the screening process is completed.
"We extend our deepest gratitude to all stakeholders for their support, especially to the National Association of Gbaramatu Students (NAGS), which was instrumental in the verification processes.
"Please note that application screening is currently in progress and disbursement of funds will begin immediately upon its completion," the IYC revealed.
According to the IYC Gbaramatu Clan, its sponsored Educational Supplementary Support Scheme (SESS) is aimed at "promoting higher enrollment in tertiary institutions, reduce dropout rates among financially underserved students, and strengthen the human capital necessary to lead Gbaramatu Kingdom toward a prosperous future."
The current initiative of the IYC Gbaramatu Clan marks the third phase, with thousands of students benefitting from the programme. Also, the third phase witnessed a significant expansion unlike the first two phases as it empowers students across all levels of tertiary education, including Universities, Polytechnics, Monotechnics, and Colleges of Education.
