PROTEST: Kokodiagbene Women Send Strong Message to Presidency Over INEC Ward Delineation Report

Women of Kokodiagbene, host community to the Jones Creek and Utonana flow stations, under the aegis of Kokodiagbene Community Women Front, have sent a message to the Presidency on the issue of the non-implementation of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) fresh ward delineation report, during a mass protest on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. Excerpt:

We, the women of Kokodiagbene Community in the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, under the platform of Kokodiagbene Community Women Front, who are stakeholders in the Warri Federal Constituency, join other peaceful protesters in the constituency to vent our frustration by taking our agitation to the Jones Creek and the Utonana flow stations as the only way to make our voices heard.

We are wives and mothers that ought to be fulfilling our duties at home as well as supporting our husbands in the homefront. However, for the past 24 hours we have been forced to leave our children and other dependants at home to voice our concerns through this peaceful protest demanding that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) immediately implement the fresh ward delineation report as released by the Commission on May 20, 2026.

When justice appeared to be hijacked, what do you expect us to do? Have we not been patient enough? In the last general elections when the issue of fresh ward delineation arose, INEC appealed to stakeholders to allow the general elections to hold, that they will obey the Supreme Court's judgement by carrying out the fresh delineation after the 2023 general elections. Now another general election is very close, and we are yet to know our stand.

We heard the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, insist that INEC must implement court judgments without political pressure. But is that not what has been happening over the years by those who are using their political connections in high places to undermine the truth and to cause a majority to become a minority in the Warri Federal Constituency? What is taking INEC this long to implement the report if it is not under interference from certain quarters?

The Ijaws are peaceful and are law-abiding citizens of this country. We have sacrificed so much for the prosperity and peace of this country. Our communities fall in the rank of fourth class in terms of basic infrastructures, yet our oil is pumped out of our lands and is used to transform other areas, while we continue to wallow in neglect and poverty. All we demand is to be given our inalienable rights to be a part of the political process so we can have our representatives in the corridors of power to deliver the dividends of democracy to us. Is that too much to ask for?

Nobody should threaten us as we have not done any wrong, but to voice our frustration and press home our demands for our rights. We say enough is enough! The world is watching. We are no longer going to accept others dictate our fate or deny us what is our rights.

We hereby reiterate our earlier call on the INEC and the government to do the needful. We have been excluded unjustly and have decided to agitate, in a peaceful manner, until we get our rights. We are not here for violence or to destroy any facilities. All we are doing is saying 'NO!' to the continuous delay tactics in the implementation of the ward delineation report.

To our President, you are our father, the Iyelawei of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom. 2027 is fast approaching. All we want is to join other law abiding citizens of Nigeria to cast out votes and democratically push for the development of our neglected, but oil-rich communities. And we will not back down until we get justice.

God bless Kokodiagbene Community. God bless Gbaramatu Kingdom. God bless Warri Federal Constituency. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria
