PIPELINE SURVEILLANCE: Expand Scope of Tantita Security Services, Confer Honours on Tompolo — Dr. Olaye tells Tinubu
In the aftermath of increased oil production in the petroleum sector, a Niger Delta based humanitarian activist, Dr. Olaye Messiah Doupade, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to expand the scope of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited’s (TSSNL) operational mandate, and to confer a national honours on its Chairman, High Chief Dr. Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo, over "credible performance in protecting our critical assets on which the national economy depends."
Dr. Olaye, a prominent advocate for sustainable development in the oil-rich producing region, made his position known in a recent message to Mr President.
He explained in his message that since the inception of Tantita, the security firm has demonstrated unparalleled expertise and commitment towards safeguarding Nigeria’s oil assets, adding that the company’s meticulous operations have led to the discovery and dismantling of illegal oil bunkering sites, recovery of stolen crude, and a significant reduction in oil theft, which are achievements that have positively impacted the nation’s oil revenue.
The prominent advocate emphasized that Tantita’s work has saved the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and the Federal Government billions of naira which was previously lost revenue.
He noted that Tompolo and his team have not only proven their capability but have also restored confidence in indigenous security solutions, stressing that the results speak volumes, and that it is high time the Federal Government acknowledges this by entrusting Tantita with an expanded scope of Work to enable him to do more for NNPCL in particular and Nigeria in general.
Dr. Olaye therefore called on President Tinubu to expand Tantita’s responsibilities to include offshore oil facility surveillance, coastal waterway security, and even collaborations in international anti-oil theft efforts, emphasizing that such an expansion would solidify the war against oil theft and illegal refining activities while ensuring sustainable economic benefits for the country.
“Tantita has not just secured pipelines; they have dismantled an entire network of economic sabotage. Expanding their scope will reinforce Nigeria’s position as a formidable player in the global oil market while improving the livelihoods of communities in the Niger Delta,” he added.
Dr. Olaye further stressed the importance of synergy between Tantita Security Services, the military, and other law enforcement agencies, and suggested the creation of a multi-stakeholder task force, with Tantita serving as the operational anchor.
“Tompolo has demonstrated that local solutions work best when rooted in community knowledge and supported by government policies. By expanding Tantita’s scope, the government will not only enhance national security but also promote economic stability.
"Under Tantita’s watch, Nigeria has recorded some of the most dramatic reductions in crude oil theft in its history. Within months of receiving the contract, the organization uncovered multiple illegal tapping points and busted several oil theft syndicates operating in remote and difficult terrains. NNPCL’s Group CEO, Mele Kyari, recently lauded Tantita’s efforts, stating that the organization’s work has become a model for effective pipeline surveillance," he stated.
The certified engineer in his appeal pointed out that several communities in the Niger Delta have also thrown their weight behind Tompolo and his security outfit, citing improved local safety and economic benefits, while traditional rulers, youth leaders, and civil society organizations have praised Tantita’s inclusive approach which employs locals and fosters community-driven solutions.
Dr. Olaye, in conclusion, said, “This is a defining moment for your administration, Mr. President. Expanding Tantita Security Services’ scope will be a masterstroke in addressing oil theft and securing Nigeria’s economic future. Tompolo has proven he is up to the task—let us give him the tools and the mandate to do more,” he appealed.
Meanwhile, as the Federal Government and the NNPCL continue their efforts to safeguard Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, the results achieved by Tantita Security Services stand as an unassailable testament to the power of indigenous expertise.
Therefore, the call by Dr. Olaye on the government for an expanded mandate of Tantita's responsibilities reflects the growing consensus that Nigeria’s fight against oil theft is best led by those with deep-rooted knowledge, proven experience, and a commitment to national progress.
The President's decision on this matter will not only shape the security of Nigeria’s oil infrastructure but also define his administration’s approach to sustainable economic growth and local empowerment.
